Albuquerque Lyrics

Well, they say
that Santa Fe
Is less than ninety miles away,
And I got time to roll a number
and rent a car.
Oh, Albuquerque.

I've been flyin'
down the road,
And I've been starvin' to be alone,
And independent from the scene
that I've known.
Albuquerque.

So I'll stop when I can,
Find some fried eggs
and country ham.
I'll find somewhere where
they don't care who I am.
Oh, Albuquerque,
Albuquerque.

I grew up in Albuquerque. I went to elementary, middle, and high school from the late 70s and through the 80s in Albuquerque. Parents still live in Albuquerque. I will tell you this: These lyrics are dead on and Albuquerque is definitely a place where they don't care who you are. It's a giant lonely city and damn pretty.

such a cool song. its almost like he's yearning to go back to "the loner" you know? only he's older and on drugs. heh. but tonight's the night is possibly the best rock album ever.

Albuequerque is a song about the desire for isolation. Tonight's the Night was written shortly after the release of Harvest, which catapulted Neil to stardom. But things went downhill from there after the agony of playing enormous stadiums turned Young into a disillusioned rock star recluse with an unkempt beard (don't they all grow those?). You can tell from the melancholy tone (and sweet pedal steel solo of Ben Keith) that Young didn't know how to take the exploded exposure and yearned for a simple place where he could disappear for awhile.

Best use of a pedal steel guitar ever! Albuquerque is a great rock song and Tonight's the Night is one of the great rock albums.

Rock? Don't really know if I'd put Tonight's the Night album into a full rock album. There's a few rock songs in there, but It's definitely country (the good kind of country, not that fake cowboy Garth Brooks crap) to my ears. Or at least country rock.

I love the song, but I can't hear "find some fried eggs and country ham" without thinking of green eggs and ham.
