This is a really sweet love song. His girlfriend or crush is having a hard time dealing with life and maybe memories of a guy that broke her heart. He thinks that if he sings to her that will take all her pain away. Sooo sweet! I love donovan
When Donovan met Dylan, Donovan had just written this song and played it to Dylan, who in turn had just written 'Baby Blue' and played it to Donovan. Many saw this as some sort of 'victory' for Dylan but they are totaly different people and songwriters and this is a great example of that difference.
I've watched the video of that, and I really don't see why everyone thought Dylan 'won' that. Personally, I was more impressed with Donovan, although I love both artists about equally.
