Best Thing Lyrics

You're ready to go
I fake a smile
All that's between us now is just three thousand miles
I move closer to you
You cover your face
you tried for months to make me notice
that you'd rather stay

so why is it so hard to tell you that I'm not leaving you here and i want you to know that I'm so sorry I hurt you
you are the best thing in my life

we kiss goodbye
we've run out of time
i leave you standing there all alone with strangers in line
I walk out the door
then i run back inside
your plane has taken off into thin air
but you stayed behind

i pull you in my arms and tell you that I'm not leaving you here
and i want you to know that I'm so sorry I hurt you
you are the best thing in my life
Somehow I know we'll make it to the other side
we can work it out
you are the best thing in my life

you tried so hard to tell me I'd do anything

wow. i've heard this song but never really listened to the lyrics. it's the saddest happy song i think i've ever heard...think about it...you think you lost the best thing in your life just to find out that you've both changed your mind...i once heard a quote “Happiness is losing something, and while you’re still mourning the loss, you find what you lost.” sums it up perfectly...

I love this song so much..It's so awesome!

my favorite part:

"we kiss goodbye we've run out of time i leave you standing there all alone with strangers in line I walk out the door then i run back inside your plane has taken off into thin air but you stayed behind"

This song reminds me of my ex a lot,as he doesnt live where i do, and is only here for uni, and it reminds me of when he went back home for a while and i went to the airport with him to see him off.

'we kiss goodbye we've run out of time i leave you standing there all alone with strangers in line '

That reminded me a lot of him, and at the time, he really was one of the best things in my life.

Anyway, this song is awesome, i think it's about a couple who are separating, neither of them want to, but they dont have the courage to tell the other. And by chance, they both decide to give it another go, and luckily, the other is still there.

I'm confused by the less than subtle similarities in lyrics between this song and Cellophane Girl. Which came first?

In response to XanderKane's question, this song came first. Since this was an independent release, it's not surprising that Graham re-did the song for his major-label release. I like both, but I prefer this version.
