With everything I've ever done
I'd give it all to everyone
For one more day
Another night I'm waking through
Another door I walk into
I can't break

And it's a winding road
And it's a long way home

So don't wait
For someone to tell you it's too late
Cause these are the best days
There's always something tomorrow
So I say let's make the best of tonight
Here comes the rest of our lives

I count the steps
The distance to
The time when it was me and you
It's so far gone

Another face,
Another friend,
Another place,
Another end,
But I'll hang on

And it's a winding road
And it's a long way home

So don't wait
For someone to tell you it's too late
Cause these are the best days
There's always something tomorrow
So I say let's make the best of tonight
Yeah, let's make the best of tonight
Here comes the rest of our lives
Rest of our lives

And it's a winding road
It's a long way home

So don't wait
For someone to tell you it's too late
Cause these are the best days
There's always something tomorrow
So I say let's make the best of it

Don't wait
Cause no one can tell you it's too late
Cause these are the best days
There's always something tomorrow
So I say let's make the best of tonight
Yeah, let's make the best of tonight
We'll make the best of tonight
Here comes the rest of our lives

    My Interpretation

I can interpret this song to be about a guy that liked this girl but he never told her and they always hung out just never said anything... One day the girl comes home with a different guy so that makes the best friend upset and wants to set things straight, "So don't wait for someone to tell you its too late" and what ever you do both of you should try and enjoy the rest of the night..

Just to help out with some of the lyrics: -"is so far gone" -"But I'll hang on" -"So I say..." not "So I'll say..."

I think that this song is about someone trying to tell his friends that sometimes, although things don't always go as planned, it's important to remember that time spent with friends is the best. It's also saying not to hold back and just go with your feelings, never be discouraged to say what you think.
It also seems like a song about going away and it is the last night he will be seeing these people for a while so they should just make the most of everything and remember all the great times shared.

Hmmm, I think this song is talking about how he probably won't be seeing his friends for a while and to make the best out of the days they all have left. it really reminds me of me and my friends. you know what? it sounds like a graduation song! how he says, "it's a winding road" and "it's a long way home" and "let's make the best of tonight" and "here comes the rest of our lives"

I agree with the graduation song idea rissaluj...i definitely get a visual of a last goodbye everyone drives off to college at the end of the movie scene lol. I'm suprised more people haven't commented...i actually heard this song on the sirius radio. Oh well, guess that means we've got a few more months before it's ruined by being overplayed on the regualr stations. I don't know why, but i really like this song. The lyrics are very simple, but the melody sounds very inspirational. In a way, kind fo similar to train. Great job graham colton!

I agree with the firend idea that lifes to short. But i think its about a friend who doesnt smile laugh talk as much as they should. He's telling him he worrys to much and your stressing to much. Specificly i think he's talking about graduating high school or college. Maybe even middle school.

And he's saying lets make the best of each day. Cus the best days of your life normaly takes place within all the crazyness of Highschool or College. Dont waste your best days.

I also agree with the friend idea. But it also could mean, just enjoy life and enjoy the moments you have now, because you don't know what will happen the next day. This does make a great graduation song, it fits perfectly.

Im def. going to try and talk my class principal into making this our graduating song.

I think its something more like, lets say your at a graduation you shouldnt cry you should be happy because they are excelling at life and they shouldnt hold back if they have a dream they shouldnt follow it they should chase it. it makdes me think of an inspirational song.

Awesome song, I'm surprised there are so few comments. But I def agree with the graduation idea. I listened to it a lot back in the summer before leaving home for college. Now I just listened to it again and remembered all the great times this summer with friends and fam. Flagtown forever!!

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

Punchline
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran sings about missing his former partner and learning important life lessons in the process on “Punchline.” This track tells a story of battling to get rid of emotions for a former lover, whom he now realized might not have loved him the same way. He’s now caught between accepting that fact and learning life lessons from it and going back to beg her for another chance.
