The American Lyrics

Sonny took a train
Mary took a boat
Somewhere its gonna be better
Everybody needs a little hope
Ten thousand souls
Waiting on a bus and it never rolled
So it goes

No one's leavin' California
Pacific transit overload
Gold dust dreamers never warn ya'
And my guitar strums
I am the American

Gotta walkin' stick
And an old sop hat
I got dirty hands
And I got a dream to match
Got a pocket full
Of government issued cures for poverty
Yeah, oh

No one's leavin' California
Pacific transit overload
And all my friends live on the corner
And my guitar strums
I am the American

Under the street light
Down by the water
Don't worry baby
It's nothing you ever knew
If it makes you feel better
Throw down a quarter
Don't worry baby
It won't stick to your shoe

No one's leavin' California
Pacific transit overload
Gold dust dreamers never warn ya'
And my guitar strums
Yeah, my guitar strums
I am the American

i cannot believe anyone has yet to post to this.. i saw angie perform for the second time last night in a very intimate setting.. he played this song as the encore and dedicated it to his grandfather who had just recently died. all i need to say is that i had chills...

Angie wrote this song while at a Burger King or something,it's about how everyone wants to come to America, but no one wants to leave, which results in poverty homeless stricken people.
