What Would You Do Lyrics

1st verse:

Boys and girls wanna hear a true story?
Saturday night was at this real wild party
They had the liquor overflowin' the cup, about
5 or 6 strippers tryin to work for a buck
and I-took one girl outside wit me, her name
was Loni, she went to Junior High wit me,
I said, Why you up in there dancin for cash?,
I guess a whole lots changed since I seen you last
She said..

Chorus:

What would you do?, if your son was at home
crying all alone on the bedroom floor, cuz he's hungry
and thee only way to feed him is ta sleep wit a man
for a little bit of money, and his daddy's gone
so we're smokin' rock now, in and out of lock down,
I aint gotta job now, so for you this is just a good time
but for me this is what I call life

2nd verse:

Girl you aint thee only one wit a baby,
that's no excuse to be livin all crazy
then she looked me right square in the eye
and said everyday I wake up hopin' to die,
she said- nigga I know about pain cuz,
me and my sista ran away, so my daddy
couldn't rape us, before I was a teenager
I done been through more shit, you can't even
relate ta!

(Chorus)

Ooooo
Then she said, What would you do? if....
Get up on my feet and let go of every excuse
What would you do? if....
Cuz I wouldn't want my baby, to go through what
I went through
What would you do? if....
Get up on my feet, stop makin tired excuses
What would you do? if...
Girl I know if my mother can do it, baby you can do it

Oooo, oooo, oooo-(yea, yea, yea, yea)

(Chorus)

What would you do? if yo son was at home,
crying all alone on the bedroom floor, cuz he's hungry
and the only way to feed him is to sleep wit a man
for a little bit of money, and his daddy's gone
so we're smokin rock now, in and out of lock down,
I aint gotta job now, so for you this is just a good time
but for me this is what I call life (Come on)

(Chorus)

When I was 15, I heard this song for the first time. At that time, I had never imagined my life could be anything like this.

From my personal experience, I was engaged to someone I was blindly in love with. Our son was planned. I am intelligent, educated, and attractive. It doesn't matter what great qualities I have, my son and I could never compete with my son's dad's drugs. I have been raising my son 100% on my own for 7 years now. Not a cent in support from "B". He's married two other women, and has left state. I was 22 with a 2 year old, no one I could trust or was willing to watch my son for extended period of time. I made a choice. I started dancing. I worked 12 hours a week making enough to pay bills and also enough time to raise my son. If you've never been there, you can't judge. I walked away from the dance life when I was 25. And I have attempted to do everything the right way. I couldn't keep a "real" job due to irresponsible baby sitters. Now, I'm 28 and am worse off by doing all the right things. I moved to a town where you have to be someone's relative to get a damn job. And I am the most motivated person you could ever meet. I have a terrific resume, but when there are no jobs, no family (I cut ties due to their drug and alcohol use and mistreatment towards their children), no support, no one I trust with my child, options are limited. I chose to have my child, "B" chose to walk away. I choose to make sure, even at the price of my "integrity" to never have my son look back and see how bad things really were. To look back with memories of us, not of some cheap self absorbed babysitter who sits him in front of the tv, or worse yet, abuse him while I'd be slaving away at a meaningless job making someone else rich. He will look back and see that I was ALWAYS there with him. It doesn't make me a bad person. And in no way would I be ashamed if my son ever found out.

@loveleigh85 good luck girl, hope things work out/have worked out for you and your son. Stay safe! Don't let the haters pull you down. I just want to say to you: Be Proud Of Yourself - you're doing great. Message from Manchester England.

I really love this song. And I believe it's allowing this woman to prove her morals. Her morality is being questioned, and she's basically telling them to look at things through her eyes. To put themselves in her shoes. I think it's just telling people to look at things from another point-of-view before judging somebody.

"Well, yeah. All those people are right. There's no doubt about it, you're the one in the wrong. Keep in mind, though Setsuna, none of your prosecutors has ever been in your shoes. These people are all observing from the gallery, smugly dispensing the smart but unoriginal moralist cliché. You really love Sara, don't you? Then you can't help it. You're the one who go hurt, the one who does the suffering. It's not something anybody else can understand...." - Kira, Angel Sanctuary

this songs so sad its so scarey how easily people can end up that way but whats so great about this song is it sends the message out very clear and i think that is a very big inspiration for young people to try hard in school and just look after themselves and its given me a real wake up call because im so used to having a loving family etc and then i have realised some people dont have that their parents dont have any money and are constantly abusing them so they never want to go home because of how harrassed they get andthose poor children have to struggle through that for all/or most of their child hood because their parents are so screwed up and these children just end up getting so traumistised for the rest of there life because of the way they were raised so dont take your happy family for granted but if you really want a song that kind of send this type of message accross you should check out these kids by joel turner but besides from all of that i loves this song so much and i also love the city high antham city high are cool as

I think it's a good song. It shows the double standards that the men are seeing strippers, and they don't think it is bad, but the girl, they think is bad and shouldn't be stripping. I think it's a good song.

I don't really like the part where the guy is like, "get up on my feet and stop making tired excuses" because I don't think she is making excuses. She has to get the money to feed her kid. Presumably, she is looking for a regular job, and she used to have one in the past.

I think it is a good song for drawing attention to this problem.

really, it's not even that. a lot of women in these positions haven't graduated from high school so they really can't even get very basic jobs. so there isn't much left for them to do. they know how to have sex and that is always something that men are going to pay for, so unfortunately, it comes to be the easiest solution.

Not Valid

@xcats She's not a stripper, she's a hooker. and that's what welfare and WIC are for, she's just stupid.

There's something important no-one else has mentioned here. The guy is being all judgmental, and you all seem to agree, that she shouldn't be stripping, even if she thinks that's the only way to feed her baby. Someone wrote that she shouldn't be lowering her standards.

Well, OK, but what about all the guys paying for the five six strippers? Don't they have any morals standards to think about? If they had any decency, they would find a way to help out someone in trouble without asking them to take their clothes off, geting off on their misery.

So, it's a great song, but with something really missing. Morals and the rest are for men as well as women; and those of us that have money have responsibility more than those that are without.

@jimquk She's not stripping, she's hooking, there's a distinct difference.

bithc! go on welfare!

Cover art for What Would You Do lyrics by City High

uh, sex isn't even the issue. it's the lack of fucking birth control. how hard is it to use a condom? how hard is it to go to planned parenthood to get on the pill for free?

also, she's not stripping. she's prostituting herself. there's actually a big difference between a stripper and a hooker, although sometimes they go hand in hand.

@charcoalsketch Thanks for being the only other logical person in here.

@charcoalsketch ONLY GOD CAN JUDGE HER! Secondly, hormones are real and they take over if one does not UNDERSTAND and even sometimes when understanding is present. Emotions, the need to feel and be loved are all a part of what leads to intimacy and sex at the wrong time and with the wrong person. Tina Turner in her lyrics to “What’s Love Got to do with it” spells it out for us who mistake sex for love. Being sexed is not being loved all of the time. Sex MUST be accompanied by other ingredients to equal LOVE. LOVE in a relationship included...

I THINK EVERY PERSON SHOULD HEAR THIS SONG CUZ IT MEANS SUMTHIN 2 ME!

@kittieluvr1314 what does it mean to you?

@kittieluvr1314 When we make sex a recreational sport, we gamble with an innocent potential life and BOTH individuals are responsible. When 2 irresponsible individuals participate in sexual behavior that can produce a life and they can hardly take care of themselves, shame on you for the lifetime of that baby and even the generations after the one they produced. One should quickly try to rectify the error and try to be the best they can for that baby or turn to adoption! IT’S NOT ALL ABOUT YOU who made poor decisions‼️ I believe one can bring horrific CONSEQUENCES on yourself with reckless...

@creed_rocks Is t happens and it is real. She says they ran away to avoid being raped by their father. I’m glad they ran. The potential rapist made them feel Uncomfortable… their own flesh and blood. It is my prayer that both young ladies run into the arms of God who will receive them and heal and help them out of this nightmarish life. Counseling…real friends and professionals.

I believe great things for them and the baby.

This father needs help badly. He can redeem himself with help. WHAT A SAD STORY…THERE ARE MANY LIKE THIS. They have...
