Watermelon in Easter Hay Lyrics

Central Scrutinizer:

This is the CENTRAL SCRUTINIZER . . . Joe has just worked himself into an imaginary frenzy during the fade-out of his imaginary song . . . He begins to feel depressed now. He knows the end is near. He has realized at last that imaginary guitar notes and imaginary vocals exist only in the imagination of The Imaginer . . . and . . . ultimately, who gives a fuck anyway? . . . So . . . So . . . Excuse me . . . Ha ha ha! Mm-mh . . . So . . . Ha ha ha . . . Ha ha ha! Who gives a fuck anyway? So he goes back to his ugly little room and quietly dreams his last imaginary guitar solo . . .

This song has the best damn guitar solo I've ever heard. There is so much feeling and emotion in the playing here...it is easy to overlook it, because the phrasings are subtle, but he's really playing his heart out here.

There really is a lot of emotion in this solo. It's my favorite Zappa piece. I even heard that one of Frank's final wishes was that nobody play this song on stage but his son Dweezil. Just goes to show how strongly he felt about it.

This song is beautiful, so much emotion on every single note... I agree with diabolusmagus; my favourite Zappa piece, by far.

Frank Zappa was, is, and always will be a genius, in my opinion.

Zappa once explained, on a radio brodcast, that the complete title of this song is "Getting this band to play something that sounds like music is like trying to grow a watermelon in Easter hay". Rehersal must have been pretty frutrating that day.

wow. this is really gorgeous. whoda thunk that this could come out of Zappa? Seems like good background music to a sad movie, preferably one with a beach scene.
