Lucky Boy Lyrics
Took your words like you said I should
and look at what good they've done me
I've played support system, you played victim
and look at what good it's done
and you trip me up
leave me standing with your akward, untouchable lips
It's a cruel world, I've found
It's a cruel world, but I'm a lucky boy
You're so glorious, a waste of time
You're the safety in lying
You are radiator heat, you're the winter blankets sleep
You're the excuse that I use when I want to stop trying
And start waiting for the sky to fall
They tell me it's a cruel world that I've found
It's a cruel world and I'm a lucky boy
You're not gold to me
I was wrong
You're not gold and there'll be
Centuries left when you're gone.
and look at what good they've done me
I've played support system, you played victim
and look at what good it's done
and you trip me up
leave me standing with your akward, untouchable lips
It's a cruel world, I've found
It's a cruel world, but I'm a lucky boy
You're the safety in lying
You are radiator heat, you're the winter blankets sleep
You're the excuse that I use when I want to stop trying
And start waiting for the sky to fall
They tell me it's a cruel world that I've found
It's a cruel world and I'm a lucky boy
I was wrong
You're not gold and there'll be
Centuries left when you're gone.

"You are radiator heat/ You're the winter blankets sleep/ You're the excuse that I use when I want to stop trying" ... those lyrics are unbelievable. This person has been hurt by someone they completely cared about and trusted, only to find out they weren't who they thought they were ("You're not gold to me/ I was wrong"). The whole lucky boy thing... maybe he thinks he's lucky because he realized early enough that he was deceived and got out of the relationship quick enough before getting hurt too bad.
"You're not gold to me..." I wish that would really sink in some times, especially right now! Not feeling Lucky right now! Love this song though!
I always took the song to be more ironic than anything. Like, in spite of all the bad things that he sees in the relationship (the untouchable lips, the cold and cruel world, he still sees himself as a lucky boy for being with her/knowing her/being around her), he either can't get out of the relationship or he simply doesn't want to get out of it.
I think this is a friendship where the guy wants more than the girl, but she doesn't see him that way. he's there for her and always her shoulder to cry on, and he finds it cruel that it'll always be this way. regardless, he feels lucky to have the friendship that they have.
