Major Leagues Lyrics

Lip balm on watery clay,
relationships, hey, hey, hey
You kiss like a rock,
But you know I need it anyway.
Angle for the ringside seats
when they fall
dont blame me

Bring on the Major Leagues
Bring on the Major Leagues
Bring on the Major Leagues
Bring on the Major Leagues

How you gonna teach him to walk
when he can't even finish the-
he can't even finish the songs of the law?
Are they civilized or satanist?
Cater to my walls and see if they fall
then leave me

Bring on the Major Leagues
Bring on the Major Leagues
Bring on the Major Leagues
Bring on the Major Leagues

They wear you down sometimes
kids like wine,
magic Christians chew the rind
Cause bad girls are always bad girls
lets let'em in.
Darling we're up against it
and there is no time for
tie-ins tie-ins tie-ins go!

Bring on the Major Leagues
Bring on the Major Leagues
Bring on the Major Leagues
Bring on the Major Leagues

They'll wear you down sometime
kiss the wine,
magic christians chew the rind
Cause bad girls are always bad girls
let'em in.

'relationships hey, hey, hey...' i like how malkmus can do silly sounding lines ('remember in december'), but somewhere in the sound and intonation they get imbued with something....more....

what does it mean though?!

@shejustwantstorock Maybe the title is a reference to Malkmus being about to go solo. Pavement was "the minor leagues" and he is looking forward to the "major leagues" that will be his solo career.

Setting: A baby shower The overall tone is how people seem to make very abrupt but seamless transitions in life when you don't see them for a relatively long period of time. In this case, a man who used to have wild times with a wild young woman returns to find her pregnant and living a very tame suburban-like lifestyle. Even though he's happy for her, he still misses her former self and is even maybe a little depressed that he hasn't changed much at all.

I think the first line is "Lip balm on watery clay" because it's about an inattentive lover.... Also, The Magic Christian is a novel by Terry Southern.

does anyone else just love the line: "You kiss like a rock, But you know I need it anyway."

I have a live version that says "You kiss like my mother"

The guitar solo is just perfect. There's not too much and not too little, and the notes just fit so well. Just beautiful.
