Thought it was easy to fall in love but you, you, you.
You're different this much I know yeah, you, you, you.
It might be your guile. It could be your mind.
It might be the way you take your time.
Oh, you, you, you.
You, it's you. It's you, you, you.
Oh, you. It's you. It's you, you, you.
I never know how much to say with you, you, you.
I like to go deep but is it safe with you, you, you.
It might be your needs. It could be your eyes.
It might be the way you don't sympathize.
Oh, you, you, you.
You. It's you. It's you, you, you.
Oh, you. It's you. It's you you you
You break laws and pay no fines. You get yours and then get mine.
I don't think it's easy to stay in love.
But you, you, you, you.
But you, yes you. It's you, you, you.
You. it's you. it's you, you, you.
Ah you
It's you. (x3)
Ah you, you, you, yes you.
With you, you, you, you ah.
You're different this much I know yeah, you, you, you.
It might be your guile. It could be your mind.
It might be the way you take your time.
Oh, you, you, you.
Oh, you. It's you. It's you, you, you.
I like to go deep but is it safe with you, you, you.
It might be your needs. It could be your eyes.
It might be the way you don't sympathize.
Oh, you, you, you.
Oh, you. It's you. It's you you you
But you, you, you, you.
But you, yes you. It's you, you, you.
You. it's you. it's you, you, you.
Ah you
It's you. (x3)
Ah you, you, you, yes you.
With you, you, you, you ah.

Nice, catchy song... No idea what it means though... maybe about being true to yourself?
i like that thought alimania, but I would say that I'll take it for the easiest thing, in a sense, and say that its about a girl. I believe Ed is married and I suppose it could be for his wife, or perhaps not, but I like to think of it as to someone you really really love.
The version I'm listening to has some important differences... I suppose my version is the original from lost dogs, but I'm not sure... The differences:
I didn't know what guile was, so, from http://www.m-w.com, I got: 1 : deceitful cunning : DUPLICITY 2 obsolete : STRATAGEM, TRICK
Well, I'm a sucker for catchy songs, but Pearl Jam rules, so that's ok in this case :). I think this song is really beautiful, here's my interpretation:
He's saying that it's really hard for him to love this person and complains about a bunch of things that piss him off, but inspite of this he continues loving.
So, he's saying how difficult it was to fall in love, and in the end he says "I thought it was easy to stay in love", implying two things: first, that he actually did fall in love, and second, the repetitive structure implies that staying in love will be just like falling in love in the sense that there it will be as difficult and have a bunch of annoying things, but he'll be able to do it anyways.
The repitition of "you, you, you" to me represents two things: first, his fixation for the person he loves, which is a part of love, and second, the selfishness of that person for intending to be the center of the universe or something.
I think it's really nice how he describes the hard parts of falling in love. But I will go further in my interpretation: it appears to me that the person he loves doesn't treat him too well, is selfish, and makes him insecure about falling in love, but the beautiful thing is that he does. It's like his love is beyond these problems and the selfishness of this person... OK, maybe I went over the edge, but this is how I see the song.
This song is one of the weaker outtakes on Lost Dogs. I don't think it's catchy at all. I can't get into the music no matter how hard I try.
in the lost dogs booklet it says this song was written in ten minutes while in a car ride. That might explain its difficulty to interpret but i think its probably just about his wife, that would be the easy thing to think i guess, im probably wrong though.
Ed, before playing "U", live in perth, 2006. "this is about selfish people, one in particular".
aye, i love this song
This should have been kept on the album, whichever one it was. But you know Pearl Jam, they don't want to be TOO accessible. One of the best Lost Dogs. It sounds great live.
I think Eddie likes to have more meaning in his songs, nowadays.
