The Lotus Eaters

In Greek mythpology, the lotus eaters were a group of people who ate the white lotus. White lotus would pacify them and put them in a euphoric state. They, in turn, would become addicted to it. In the Odysee, Oddyseus had to try and keep his men from even going near the island, because the stuff was so powerful that one try got you hooked forever. He's trying to draw a connection between the Lotus Eaters of Greek mythology and religion. Religion is like an opiate that keeps people pacified and narcoticized. Just like the White Lotus of Greek Mythology.

Ummm sorry bout the copy....but antyway The Lotus eaters are a tribe in Africa who feed on the white lotus (a plant). The plant causes the people to lose their memory, thus all the lotus eaters are totally mindlless without a purpose. Well can anyone fit that into the song?

I'd imagine that the song is taking the perspective of the lotus eaters.

'We fall into the spaces blind, the puzzle so unkind' - a kind of lost feeling, as you would fail to remember where you are, where you were, and where you're going...

Also, 'Please God, why did you take her away?' might refer to the removal of their memory.

The lotus eaters line refering to how following religion like that would be like losing who you are, hence the lotus eaters.-

And the 'her' is the same woman as in 'Dreaming Neon Black' and 'Forever'.

I know the Lotus Eaters from "The Odyssey", but that's it. I guess it could fit in some obscure, metaphoric way. This song is a cry out to God, why has he left him? What was his pupose in taking away his girlfriend? I think that's it.

Dreaming Neon Black is a concept album... This song is about how Dane's girlfriend ran away with a religious cult, and how he suffers. I suppose the lotus-eating stuff means he just wants to forget about it.
