She is so unrealistic and dreamy. He is so realistic and factual. The relationship could work, but the outside world influences won't let it! He knows it will fade and die. He morns the death of the relationship and thus let's fall the flowers of blood.
randyg4's pretty much got it in my opinion. Rather than it being pessimistic and optimistic people, it makes more sense to believe that he's much more of a realist than she is. I don't think the relationship could work at all, it's probably already over in this song, because he's saying the flowers will fade. The flowers SHE gave him. They've faded, along with the relationship and yeah, he's mourning the relationship. This is my favourite song because I'm a realist like him, it makes sense.

basically, all things have to end, maybe thats just the message of the whole album for instance "there is no if, jus when", "the fire is almost out, theres nothing left to burn"...... nothing lasts forever, beautiful song and album

LIES LIES LIES, it's all she(or whoever) ever told him, (she) tried to make a world of fantasy for him, telling him that everything would be ok that everything would work out, she spread the butter for him, (made things way easy) but he realized that all she was about were LIES LIES LIES (she) promised truth, and love forever. I agree with what you're all saying, but it could also be a song dealing with optimists versus pessimists. I know this is only scratching the surface of the lyrics, but it's just another way of looking at them :)

just pure powerful cure, great contrast in the song from beginning to end (start out sorta mellow and then just jams at the end), great changeups in keys. One of the 2 best songs on this album next to 39
