There Is No If...

For me this song is all about living for the moment. At the beginning of the song they are both completely in love and it feels like they're going to be together forever- "Tell me I'm forever yours and you're forever mine" It's that moment in most relationships when you feel and almost 'know' you are going spend the rest of your life with that person. The second half of the song is all about the person who the song is about, explaining that he/she realises they can't be together forever because "There is no always forever just this". For me that line explains the whole meaning of the song, nothing lasts forever because there is just "This", just the here and now. For me the line "There is no if...just and" means that there is no 'if you die..' there is only 'and you die' because it isn't a possibility that one of them will die, it is a fact, which again brings the whole meaning of "there is no always forever" out of the song. You can't have someone forever, so you have to make the most of the present moment.

I remember the first time i heard this song.. I cried uncontrollably. It's so beautiful. Just the thought of loving someone so intensely makes my eyes shine. And i believe that's why both Robert and the girl he's with cry. It's because they love each other so completely. But it seems that Robert gets annoyed with her constant statement "If you die, so do I". While for her it says she needs him and will die without him, but for him he wants to live in the moment and not think about the future or perhaps that there IS no future, just this. "it ends the day you understand. There is no if, just and" maybe that's saying he doesnt want to think about the future because he knows they'll both die someday. Everything comes to an end.

this song is amazing

The meaning to this song is about a couple who loves each other very much and they are blind in love. That new love that you always feel, like you will be together forever. However, sometimes, when a person goes through pain and stress, they take it on the other person and in turn feel that pain too. They continue to hurt together. Then on this day, this person doesn't realize what has happened to the other, what type of pain that person afflicted on the other. The other person is then crying because he/she can't take it anymore. There is a realization that they can not be together forever anymore. And the pain will stop once they realize that there is no forever between them. That their relationship is "just this."

Would it be viable to say the end of this song is death? "Warm and safe in a perfect world" seems like heaven, where he tells her that he loves her (for the last time). I have the visual of her weeping alone, in the dark and on her bed.

The flower/soil thing is too far removed for me.

I prefer to think of it as being a perfect example of mixed emotions in love.

This song, in fact this entire album has deep meanings to me throughout. I fell in love for the first time while listening to this album. And this song in particular captivates the undying love we had for each other. It set the mood for the entire relationship. And as we drew apart the second part of this song, again personified us. It was me saying, "I love you", and she just yawned. But she said she still loved me. And I heard her crying on her tentmet rooftop at midnight. She was saying she loved me so much, but it was over. We only loved whom we used to see each other as. "BUT IT ENDS THE DAY YOU SEE HOW IT IS" And now we see how it really is. And the once starving, insatiable love has died. But it was amazing while we had it. We were just platonic conversationalists burning for the ancient heavenly connection in the starry dynamo of night. But now, we're thousand miles apart and no longer in love. And all we have left are the still framed memories and photographs.

once, ages ago, i was with my boyfriend, and we were laying together, being very silent and content, and i burst into tears. he kept asking what was wrong, and i just couldn't bring myself to say that everything ends, even if a relationship can last. "there is no if, just and..." you die, and so do i.

i cant believe not that many people commented on this song. i think the cure is great and i personally think this is one of my favourite songs from them. i also love just like heaven =) anyways the first time someone told me to listen to this i was like ok ok, whats the big deal? then i heard the first couple lines and that was all i needed! i love smith's voice. so profound and touching. i wish i could be in the pouring rain with someone i love and have them tell me they love me.

This song is about a guy who is in love (his eyes are shining) with his girlfriend. The second part is about him still loving her but she is in love with somebody else (her eyes are shinging, but not towards him)
