Long Time Ago Lyrics

When you turned out the light
and walked out the door
I said to myself
what did I come here for?

Did you have a good time
drinking whiskey and ryhme
and did you want to be
Bonnie and Clyde?

What goes on in your mind,
what goes on in your head?
Who did you think I would be
ha, well you got me instead.

You think there's some connection
that I'm your female reflection
but no...

I can be loyal
and (a) I can be true
but that's for somebody else
and it will never be you.

You think we're predetermined
but babe you're learning
way to slow...

But it seems such a long time ago.

[er, something that sounds like "go, fishman" right before the solo]

(oh...) He can see things
you'll never know how to see.
He's three times the man
you'll never know how to be.
I'll do anything he wants
and I'll go anywhere
he wants me to go.

And if that isn't love
then I guess I'll just never know.

But it seems a long time ago...

I'm surprised no-one has commented on this song after it was used during the end credits/montage of the very, very, very last episode of The Shield earlier this week.

This song will forever make me weepy. God, I miss the Strike Team. :( Seeing clips of them in better days with this wonderful songs playing over it really got to me.

It's almost like the song was written for the character of Vic Mackey.

Right there with you. This song fit perfectly. It's my opinion that there will never be another show as good as this was. The best writing on TV, the best drama cast, and how many people gave career performances on this show (Glenn Close, Anthony Anderson, Forrest Whitaker.. etc)? But I digress. It ended perfectly, and I'm glad they did the montage in the end credits, because it made you remember why this was the best show for the past 6 years.

Sometimes we commit to the most foolosh of relationships, but when the real thing comes along we throw out all the rest. Johnette writes about this vividly and emotionally. You can feel her regret over the first relationship. Simple, strong, meaningful, I can go on and on.
