Damien Lyrics

So the beast resides in me
Deep down I always knew
I never really did fit in
So diverse from all of you
Let him who comprehends
Know the number of the beast
It's a number of a man
A number just for me

As the boy becomes a man
Father's minions pave the way
Set in motion now, Armageddon,
Final conflict, end of days

I embrace the hounds of hell
And the power they oblige
For the task that lies ahead
The Nazarene I'll crucify
They'll see the raptures of our kingdom
They'll see the truth to mankind
I'll show what hell truly is
The monotony of their lives

Chorus
When the Jews return to Zion
And a comet fills the sky
The Holy Roman Empire rises
And you and I must die
From the eternal sea he rises
Creating armies on either shore
Turning man against his brother
Till man exists no more

Nazerene, what can you offer?
Since the hour you vomitted forth
From the gaping wound of a woman,
You have done nothing
But drown mans' soaring desires
In a deluge of sanctimonious morality
I was conceived of a jackle
Your pain on the cross was but a splinter
Compared to the agony of my father
I will drive deeper the thorns
Into your rancid carcass,
You profaner of Isis
Cursed Nazerene,
I will avenge thy torment

Bridge
Now Disciples of the Watch
See your Prince of Darkness rise
Through famine and destruction
The Four Horsemen at my side
I demand a victory, I demand a sacrifice
Or spend all eternity
In the flaccid gut of Christ!

This is song is about the anti-Christ from the Omen trilogy which roots lie in the book of Revelation in the Bible.

This song is based off the Omen trilogy. I think it's about Damien seeking revenge. When Damien becomes a man Armageddon/revenge will certainly in sue.

Does anyone know what is being said in the lyrics that are not listed here? I mean the chanting (possibly in Latin?) at the beginning and end, and then at the very end something is spoken (or rather chanted again, I guess,) but it is played backwards.

The song is indeed about Omen's Damien Thorne, quite faithful at that. Rock Hawk, Iced Earth were asked exactly that at http://www.icedearth.com/wwwbb_msg.php?m=4 and they said that the Latin chant is simply random doomsday-phrases from Latin dictionary with some made up bits tossed in. The Latin is sung forward, but there is also quiet voice chanting in english that was originally recorded backwards Twin Peaks style. I can not make out more than occasional words, either.

A while back, i reversed the backwards english towards the end of the song. Its simply the "When the jews return to zion..." bit spoken softly and reversed.

"Cursed Nazerene, I will avenge thy torment"

This part of the lyrics always confused me. That's most certainly not an orthodox interpretation of the Antichrist from Christian mythology.

I have to agree.. they took a lot of that section directly from The Omen.. but the line is "Cursed Nazarene. Satan, I will avenge thy torment, by destroying the Christ forever." Its always baffled me that it was put this way in this song cause it kinda muddles things.

@rock_hawk I was wondering the same thing. But to me at some point it sounds like it is saying "Set. Abominae." (the name of the character from their two most recent albums)

Easy. It's about Damien, son of the Devil.

"Disciples of the Watch", the name of Damien's thug-mob in the movie, is also the name of songs recorded by at least Testament and The Insiders. Iced Earth liked the theme so much it makes another appearance in "Something Wicked This Way Comes". It is also the name of a Satanic coven that's reputedly existed from 1564 to today. I have a recollection the name originates from the apocrypha, but I can't find a confirmation right now. It seems a clear reference to the 12 disciples of Jesus in New Testament, though it might contain a hidden reference to "disciples of watch-maker god" in philosophy.
