The Reason I Stay Lyrics
If you were here right now I wouldn’t right this down at all.
I’d think out loud, embracing you in a calm confessional.
If you were here right now, I wouldn’t write this song at all.
I’d sing out loud, and hope that you don’t just laugh it off.
I stay here because it makes too much sense not to, too much sense not to.
If you could hear me now I’d be careful not to say,
How I’ve cancelled all my plans to go away.
Sometimes when you’re around, it cancels out the gray,
But more than not, you tack it on in your lightless way.
I stay here because it makes too much sense not to, too much sense not to.
These joints buckle, from the weight of this wall.

Wow. This song throws too much limitation on how much I can describe my feelings for it. I recently listened to the new time spent driving album only days ago and my jaw dropped after hearing the beauty lyrically as well as musically during the reason I stay. You can really hear the honesty straight from Jon's whispers in singing throughout the track. What really grabbed hold of me however, was the point in which the band breaks down into a soft riff with a very very amazing guitar line aligned with his voice as he whispers "My joints buckle, under the weight of this wall, under the weight of it all." After this riff, the distortion draws right back but this time with piano, pulling you in and letting you really feel it. Its just an amazing moment and truly increases the beauty of the song contruction. Awesome stuff. One of my favorites already.
