Scattered Lyrics

Where the dragonflies float on
And little kids go chasing them
Till night time comes along
And the prophet of a discontent is gone
And the devil smiles as he pulls the wings off
Of the one who wrote and forgot the song

Well it's not my fault what you did
And it's not my fault we're young and stupid
Still I'm stuck in this nightmare joke
No company
My strings are broke
So I go out looking for the right one
A nice fat girl with a tight one

'Cause I, I, oh I always laugh when I'm hurting

When I was punk I was way more punk than you
What happened to our little tribe
On the tombstone it inscribed
And I, I didn't know my friends would leave me too
When I sold out I thought my lies out through and through
'Cause I, I, oh I always laugh when I'm hurting

Is anyone sick of being nervous and annoyed
Don't play with pins to fill the void
And I'm paranoid

And the legacy we've become
Into the high rockets, see the shotgun
To the burger bleeding on the plate
I'm holding out for a different fate

Yeah, no one's fooling anyone
Everyone struggles inside
And everyone has lied
Fooling anyone
No one is fooling anyone
Yeah, no one is fooling anyone
No one is fooling anyone.

Turn the music up louder
Spit out the taste of gun powder, and
We'll have a bonfire
Burn it all down, let's take it higher

I need a woman who makes my soul feel thick
She says love, I won't feel sick

When you say "how ya doing?"
We'll say, we are fine
Yeah, we're fine
I am fine.

Cause I, I, oh I always laugh when I'm hurting.

Oh I...

Sounds like a very melodic song about dealing with your inner demons. I especially enjoyed the beginning with children chasing the dragonflies, always makes me smile. I miss those days, instead now we face demons. Yay! for adulthood

Does anyone else thinkg about the indie/emo "scene" (hate that word) when they hear "when I was punk I was way more punk than you" "when i sold out i thought my lies out through and through" and the whole need to know the most obscure band ever? Most bands do one of two things, they either get big or break up, there are exceptions but still. Sorry for the mini-rant there.

I like how the majority of the song mentions destruction. "pulls the wings off", "wrote and forgot the song", the obvious relationship falling apart, the tombstone and losing your friends to selling out, "playing with pins to fill the void", the shotgun reference, "everyone struggles inside" and cumulating with "burn it all down lets take it higher". And its's all summed up by laughing when you really shouldnt, whether its to hide your real emotions or out of bitterness or just your response to what is happening.

this song is gorgeous. no other word. absolutely adore it. the part i like best is "No one's fooling anyone/Everyone struggles inside" because SJ really just captures a certain feeling about the world. just the whole idea of everyone putting up a face for everyone around them to fall for. and it is true, everyone does it. "When you say how ya doing? We'll say we are fine...Cause I, I, oh I always laugh when I'm hurting". beautiful. "Still I'm stuck in this nightmare joke, no company, my strings are broke" ack love it. =)

well after re-quoting practically the whole song, I just have to say that I think it refers to hidden feelings and how there is a need to be something different, "I'm holding out for a different fate" i think the bonfire is refering to burning down all the facades and masks to get down to what really exists, what was before selling out or something =).

ps. i think its "With your burger bleeding on the plate" instead of "If we're good leading on the play" maybe? i dunno give it a listen. bye!

sorry for that ramble. just love this song. a lot.

I could be way off but this is what this song means to me i think hes saying that he was with a girl or someone inportant to him and a good friend took that away from him and its something he wouldnt expect like in the lines "Well it's not my fault what you did And it's not my fault we're young and stupid Still I'm stuck in this nightmare joke, no company, my strings are broke" i had this happen to me last summer and this song helped me get through it good shit

i'm pretty sure he says 'that ugly word that makes my throat feel thick" instead of "i need a woman who makes my soul feel thick"

but yeah, beautiful song. SJ is just showing his feelings about how everyone tries to cover up their inner emotions..how being 'fake' won't solve anything. everyone has problems. everyone lies. yet still, people create drama over liars and addicts just because they're afraid to admit their own problems. great song.
