The Medication Is Wearing Off Lyrics
See this watch she gave me?
Well it still ticks away the day's I'm claiming back for me
Do do do do do do do do do do...
The medication's wearing off
Gonna hurt not a little, a lot
Keep on tickin' you're not lickin' me
Do do do do do do do do do do...
Do do do do do do do do do do...
Step on a crack, break your mother's heart
Red light green light black
Suicide e-mail, do not delete
Plug it back in the jack
Start to be what they want you to be
And you see yourself as they see you
Sunrise on the corner of Sunset and Alvarado
I think "what the hell do i do now?"
Watch the day disintegrate
So I can stay up late and wait...
See this watch she gave me?
Well it still ticks away
Do do do do do do do do do do...
Well it still ticks away the day's I'm claiming back for me
Do do do do do do do do do do...
Gonna hurt not a little, a lot
Keep on tickin' you're not lickin' me
Do do do do do do do do do do...
Do do do do do do do do do do...
Red light green light black
Suicide e-mail, do not delete
Plug it back in the jack
Start to be what they want you to be
And you see yourself as they see you
I think "what the hell do i do now?"
Watch the day disintegrate
So I can stay up late and wait...
Well it still ticks away
Do do do do do do do do do do...

I think the song is actually about his mother. Both she and E's sister passed away when E started writing this album. The only reason I say it's about his mother and not his sister is the line "break your mothers heart". Also, E's sister was a huge part of how he got into music, so I would think he would use some type of musical object as a gift from her.
one of the cool things about eels is how they combine quite upbeat tunes with meaningful (and usually quite emotional) lyrics. without listening to the lyrics it sounds reasonably cheerful but when you listen to what he's saying it's really quite creepy. About a watch that his sister gave him for christmas before she died. brilliant. thats what i think anyways...
i read somewhere that it's a response to "Novocaine for the Soul."
sunrise on the corner of sunset and alvarado i think
what the hell do i do now
watch the day disintegrate
so i can stay up late and wait
god. damn.
Well, I'm not clear on this for some reason, but maybe it's possible that the song is about his sister, and the line "break your mother's heart" is actually a reference to his sister killing herself, and his mother being heartbroken.
Well, wouldn't you be?
Not if I was dead.
Earlier in the album 'Electro Shock Blues' there is a song 'I am OK', This song is possible about mental health medication wearing off, feeling very trippy and not being able to keep track of time.
I think this song is about pain meds, especially considering he mentions his mom, I bet is from that moment the opioid wears off and you wake up in pain.
