One Step Inside Doesn't Mean You Understand Lyrics
Prepare your shoes
not to come back soon.
Prepare your heart
not to stop too soon.
You cannot walk with us.
One step inside
doesn't mean you understand.
One step inside
doesn't mean I'm yours.
In your world
my feet are out of step.
And my arms won't move,
my hands won't grab.
I will never read
your stupid map,
so don't call me incomplete.
You're the freak.
not to come back soon.
Prepare your heart
not to stop too soon.
doesn't mean you understand.
One step inside
doesn't mean I'm yours.
my feet are out of step.
And my arms won't move,
my hands won't grab.
your stupid map,
so don't call me incomplete.
You're the freak.

I think it's about being an individual in the world. Society is generally not very accepting of individuals, and tries to label and stereotype people who are different from the norm. But the so-called normal people are freaks for going along with conformity for conformity's sake alone. I actually don't see this as a sad song at all, but rather as an anthem for the outcasts of the world and everyone who dances to the beat of a different drummer. Lovely!
I think he's getting his own back on someone selfish who can't see from another person's point of view. Though I'm probably wrong...
One of the best openers for an album I've ever heard.
Yeah, it is a great opener. Whenever I listen to this song, I am reminded of the people who come knocking on your door, or stop you as your leaving a concert to tell you that you are going to hell.
amazing song
i love this. i mean. absolutely love.
so sad
I think it's about himself and his friends being diffrent, and the person it's about wants to 'walk with them'. And because that person can't, he or she calls them freaks. On which the singer replies that he or she's the freak, not them.
Hell I agree. To an extent.
wow - classydame, i completely agree with you. seriously. nice.
i always heard "map" as "myth," which made me think of christianity. even if i misheard, i still thought it was a viable interpretation.
