Frog On My Toe Lyrics

poppa, I know
there's a Frog on my toe
maybe I'll call him Jethro
maybe I'll grow up to be
as wise and as good as he
and maybe I'll come back after you're long gone

poppa, I'm sure
the worms have eaten you now
and Jethro's been on some Frenchy's plate long ago
now I'm pretty sure that I listen to every word
'cause you're still here telling me still

"slap them boys if they're naughty
make them crawl, make you haughty

make you strong, little girl
you paint them toes a reddish colour
and you know one day
you're gonna be bigger than a flea
you're gonna be bigger than that old poison ivy tree."

now I'm pretty sure
that I think you'd come and visit
and talk sometimes kinda like Gidget
in funny little chants like an Indian brave
he said "we all grew fat when the white man came."
but one day, girl, you're gonna learn
to make them crawl
make them grow tall
but have the grace
to be a lady with disgrace
and you fry them taters
and you make them with lady's hands
i know you're my pappy's baby.

this song is one of my favorite Tori Bee-sides. I think people get put off by the title, but the emotion Tori puts into this song, as all of her songs, really makes it something special. At least to me.

"you're gonna be bigger than a flea you're gonna be bigger than that old poison ivy tree." simply love it, reminds me of hot summer day in american south with magnolia flowers and peaches. love it.

i think it's a song about reminiscing your dead father. I think the girl's in the cemetery and she's visiting her dead father's grave and while she's there, she sees this frog Jethro (i don't know, frogs tend to be in wet and gloomy places like cemeteries)

I agree indiethought; even if it's a silly song (which this isn't at all for me) Tori used to be able to put enough emotion and still keep her voice amazing for it to just make an instant connection with the listener. Anywho... is it me or do people just cut and paste from other lyric websites... or is it the same people putting them up everywhere?

It's actually about her maternal grandfather. They were really close and she would spend every summer with him until he died when she was nine.

I always thought the lines of the chorus were:

Slap them boys when they're naughty Make them crawl, make you HARDY.

Hardy makes a lot more sense than 'haughty,' even though 'haughty' is a perfect rhyme. Most songs aren't written with perfect rhymes and are actually deliberately written to not have perfect rhymes because they're usually cliched and predictable.

Plus, Tori has a thick southern accent when she's singing. It definitely sounds like 'hardy' to me as in both strong in character and ultimately a strong, sexual woman when she's older, because it's in reference to the naughty boys.
