Liberty Bell Lyrics
No brainwaves or activity
While the craft is in the air
It's getting dark, it's getting light
We are sitting in a chair
We have fastened every belt
We cannot float out of our seats
It's so enormously frightening
When our tail reaches superheat
Another timezone
A change of season,
It is turning dark again
We're getting ready for yet
Another orbit around our planet
It is time for the galactic cruise
To come to an end
One last view of the world
And the time there we have spent
Ooh, so enormous
No brainwaves or activity
While the craft is in the air
It's getting dark, it's getting light
We are sitting in a chair
Ooh, sitting in a chair
While the craft is in the air
It's getting dark, it's getting light
We are sitting in a chair
We cannot float out of our seats
It's so enormously frightening
When our tail reaches superheat
A change of season,
It is turning dark again
We're getting ready for yet
Another orbit around our planet
To come to an end
One last view of the world
And the time there we have spent
While the craft is in the air
It's getting dark, it's getting light
We are sitting in a chair

Liberty Bell was the name of Alan Shepard's (first American in space) space capsule.
@JohnDiFool2 While it's correct that Alan Shepard was the first Unitedstatian in space, his capsule was nicknamed "Freedom 7". "Liberty Bell" was the name given to another cpasule piloted by the astronaut Virgil "Gus" Grissom. Liberty Bell's spaceflight lasted 15 minutes and I believe this song is about that mission. The only verse that confuses me is the first one where it says "No brainwaves".

It sounds simply like it's about astronauts going up into space. The astronauts' dialogue at the end (someone care to transcribe it here?) would indicate such, especially with the last note, "O-2 is alright."
But the beauty of it...oh, how exciting! I just wonder why it's actually called "Liberty Bell." Maybe the bell-shape of the engines on the tail that reach the "superheat?" And the "liberty" that the launch brings?
Any other interpretations of this popular Gathering song?
@theotherness "O-2 is alright" may refer to the oxygen level inside an aircraft which is, actually, alright )))
