Sleeping With Lions Lyrics
Said you wanted to feel cold metal and hard steel
But it cuts in too deep to see you doing your midnight creep
Somebody hurts you so you´re hurting me
The only way it was meant to be
As the lights of neon slowly dim I can read in flesh
Everywhere you´ve been
Dreaming of silence of the gentle rain
Sleeping with lions in the temple of pain
Said you wanted to steal a heart of soul
And make a deal with the danger that you feed
Don´t like the monsters that you keep
Somebody hurts you so you´re hurting me
The only way it was meant to be
As the lights of neon slowly dim I can read in flesh
Everywhere you´ve been
Dreaming of silence of the gentle rain
Sleeping with lions in the temple of pain
But it cuts in too deep to see you doing your midnight creep
Somebody hurts you so you´re hurting me
The only way it was meant to be
As the lights of neon slowly dim I can read in flesh
Everywhere you´ve been
Sleeping with lions in the temple of pain
And make a deal with the danger that you feed
Don´t like the monsters that you keep
Somebody hurts you so you´re hurting me
The only way it was meant to be
As the lights of neon slowly dim I can read in flesh
Everywhere you´ve been
Sleeping with lions in the temple of pain

Thought that nothing prevents from all the suggested versions about the girl to coexist. Personally would like to add that those could be even BDSM clubs...
@Yarven yes! She's coming home at all hours with marks, bruises.

Gives me the Vibe.. Of being in love with a girl. who wants so badly to be satanic.. to love pain.. She's been hurt, yes.. but shes trying to hard to be a decendant of the devil.. and you love her.. but hate watching her become so hurt.
It seems to me like it's about a guy who is in love with a girl who cuts herself. "Cold metal and hard steel" makes reference to razor blades while "I can read in flesh everywhere you´ve been" is really saying "By seeing your scars, I can see that you've been through hard times."
"Dreaming of silence of the gentle rain Sleeping with lions in the temple of pain"
I agree with epimethuis. I think this part explains how the girl dreams of a better life, but then realizes what her life is really like. Like she's trapped in some world daydreaming about a better one.
this might be a stretch but last night driving home i had this idea about the song......it's a song about a girl who is a prostitute.but she hates this lifestyle she's in and wants to get out.heres how i got to this
"As the lights of neon slowly dim"-strip clubs have neon lights "And make a deal"- dealing with money and then as the title suggests. 'sleeping with lions' lions being the rich male.
sweet666 it's true i have also thought about that many times, but i've never found anyone who shares my point of view! :)
i dunno about the rest of you, but when i hear this, i get the thought of a guy that likes a chick who just, for some reason, really wants to be a badie. Ya know, hit the clubs, stay out all night, f**k like an animal with strangers, do drugs, sell her body, the whole nine yards. And maybe this guy just happens to know about that life is is warning her about it being like sleeping with the lions-if you do it, it'll kill you.
Trust me, if you are ever in love with a girl who cuts herself this song will make a lot more sense.
Great thoughts. I think yes she might hurt him by cutting herself or prostitution, but I think she's getting high on sex itself and he can see the scratches and bruises left by other men. I wish the lyric would read somebody hurt you, not hurts... the prostitution remarks sound good but she might be a sex addict. She's maybe not around faithfully because he talks about where she's been.
