Tarpit Lyrics
Hey what's bubbling down under there?
Why's it screaming?, what's unfair?
Please excuse it for getting hard
Let the (shellfish?) swell inside
But how should I now watch it squirm?
It's asking me what's that I learn
Stay inside, pull me out of space
Trip me sprinkling grey
Stay and take my fate
Thought I knew you, stuck out my hand
The bit which I could understand
It's a twisted feeling, staring bored
It's time to burn, I hope I score
Wait for me there, the gas might run
Strike this little, be outdone
Stay inside, pull me out of space
Trip me sprinkling grey
Stay and take my fate
Take my fate
Take my fate
Take my fate
And take my fate
Why's it screaming?, what's unfair?
Please excuse it for getting hard
Let the (shellfish?) swell inside
But how should I now watch it squirm?
It's asking me what's that I learn
Stay inside, pull me out of space
Trip me sprinkling grey
Stay and take my fate
Thought I knew you, stuck out my hand
The bit which I could understand
It's a twisted feeling, staring bored
It's time to burn, I hope I score
Wait for me there, the gas might run
Strike this little, be outdone
Stay inside, pull me out of space
Trip me sprinkling grey
Stay and take my fate
Take my fate
Take my fate
Take my fate
And take my fate

As gigantic of a Dinosaur fan I am....and the fact that I understand completely how hard it is to understand this song....I can tell you that these lyrics are almost 100% wrong.
The gas part, I'm not too sure about....
Confusing song, I know, but the lyrics for it on here have been butchered.
Thanks for correcting the lyrics. Next time would you PLEASE explain the song for those of us who aren't too sharp ;)

I thought it said "Stay in paint my face"
@Mindglow I think it's pave my face
@Mindglow I think it's pave my face
It's about some unfortunate shellfish that got stuck in a tarpit.
Haha, I'm not entirely sure, but it seems to be about having sex. About two very young, unexperienced people having sex.
Oh, jesus, penelopetree, that would make so much sense. See, when i would listen to it, I didn't know what the fuck he was talking about. But when I read it and I see things like "let the shelter swell inside", "hash it out now and watch her squirm", and the whole thing about "down there screaming" and then saying it's not fair (i guess that he didn't have a girlfriend or some shit). Damn that's funny. Fuckin pillow fucking j mascis.
Here's what I got on the lyrics,
Hey what's bubling down under there? Why's it screaming? What's unfair? Please excuse it, forget and hide let the shellfish swell inside hatch it out now, watch it squirm it's askin me what's that I learned
Stay inside, pull me out of space trip me - sprinkling, grey stay and paint my fate
thought I knew you, stuck out my hand you bit, whish I could understand it's a twisted feelin' that's there and gone now it's time to burn the hope i've stored wait for me there, the gash and run still your righteousness won't be out done
Stay inside, pull me out of space, trip me - sprinkling, grey, stay and paint my fate
paint my fate (repeated)
My guess is that the song is about a bad relationship (maybe it feels like a Tarpit)
The first verse seems to be about something (a feeling, hunch or emotion?) building that one doesn't want to admit, but it gets under their skin (like an oyster with a grain of sand maybe? shellfish? swell? just a thought) before eventually surfacing in all it's uglyness. they blame themselves for not having learned their lesson the last time.
The second verse seems to be about being hopeful about someone/something, trusting them/it and only getting hurt/betrayed because of it. The other party acts deviously/maliciously (wait for me there, the gash and run...) but still pretends/portrays themself as righteous and irreproachable.
I have no Idea what the chorus is about; maybe being inside on a rainy day (sprinkling, grey), trying to express the feeling of going from cloud 9, to flat on your face?
or maybe I'm reading way to much into this.
I believe it's "stay and pave my fate."
And I think it's generally about J's inability to open up/relate to/get close to other people, but there seems to be someone he trusts enough to help him work things out, cos he probably won't do it on his own.
