I'm not sure what 'it' is but it seems to me that he's been told that he'll understand eventually but he's still think about it. He keeps repeating that he knows what the answer will be (It'll come to you) but he's fishing for something more |

I think it's about him trying to leave someone and he knows he should but he knows he's probably not going to. Maybe about the same person as "I'm going home" maybe written a little later |

I think it's about a relationship. He doesn't understand why she's interested in him and holds this girl in high regard on, puts her on a pedestal. She senses this and exploits him, treating him like a pet. He feels that there is something more tp the attraction than having him as a pet though. I think the song lyrics may have been written over a period of time. Some of it when he didn't understand what she saw in him. SOme of it when he was thinking about how she treats him. And finally that bit, perhaps in retrospect, where he says he thinks there was more to it (I.e she loved him?) |

I think it means come on down like, stop worrying and come and join us [wherever], like he's talking to someone who's worrying about something he feels is irrelevant, or they don't need to worry about it. Comfort and assurance sort of thing |

I think there's also a hint of bitterness in there. Or maybe confusion about the subject's intentions:
I.E "you don't even know
So I'm flalin'
While you're sailin' off
Without a course in mind
Without a mind, without a dock
What is it that you wanna find" |

I think some of it's about a real person. Maybe the rubber doll bit started off as a metaphor and became a cover? |

I think he's also expressing sadness that he just wants to be a certain way, kind of lovey with this girl, but at the same time he knows he's hurting himself. Despite the fact that he says he's going home, other things in the song ("wanna tell you that I miss you" "I breathe all alone for you" etc) suggest that he's just kidding himself because although he may know that he should be getting back to what he's meant to be doing, his feelings are too strong and he knows it's not gonna happen. I think "Gray" got it on the head actually |

I don't think this has an *exact* subject but - referring to the way I relate to it here - I think it's sort of an exploration of his psyche. By using examples he is talking about the ways that he is. |

yeah it reminds me of a better version of that song too :p
I think he's saying he wants progression in some way,, and that he's asking somebody for help. Like in Green Mind where he asks "Can't you help move it along." |

| Lou Barlow – Holding Back the Year Lyrics

I love it, he played it last night in his acoustic set supporting Dinosaur *woop*
I thought of holding back the year as holding back some huge inevitability, although I'm not exactly sure what that inevitability is the case. |
