Do They Owe Us A Living? Lyrics

Fuck the politically minded, here’s something I want to say, about
the state of the nation, the way it treats us today. At school they
give you shit, drop you in the pit, you try and try to get out, but you
can’t because they’ve fucked you about. Then you’re a prime
example, of how they must not be, this is just a sample of what
they’ve done to you and me.

Do they owe us a living? Of course they do, of course they do.
Do they owe us a living? Of course they do, of course they do.
Do they ow us a living? OF COURSE THEY FUCKING DO.

They don’t want me anymore, cos I threw it on the floor. They
used to call me sweet thing but I’m nobody’s plaything, and now
that I am different, they’d love to bust my head, they’d love to see
me cop out, they’d love to see me dead.

Chorus

The living that is owed to me I’m never going to get, they’ve
buggered this old world up, up to their necks in debt. They’d give
you a lobotomy for something you ain’t done, they’ll make you an
epitome of everything that’s wrong

Chorus

Don’t take any notice of what the public think, they’re so hyped
up with t.v., they just don’t want to think. They’ll use you as a
target for demands and for advice, when you don’t what to hear it
they’ll say you’re full of vice.

Chorus

Why would "fuck manchester united" be perfect? As far as i can tell, this song has nothing to do with manchester united, or even to do with football in general.

I was hoping to read comments regarding the political lyrics of one of the better Crass songs, not some irrelevant argument about a British soccer team which wasn't even mentioned in the lyrics to begin with.

All these posts are crazy old but I just found this site today so I'm adding my 2 cents. Explaining Crass lyrics is pretty pointless because the songs just mean what they say lol! The just like, "the church, state, capitalism, consumerism, greed/wealth, bigotry/racism and war are all very bad and here's why". I love Crass for that reason plus their music/musicianship is amazing. Oh and then there's "Big A little a" which is just like, "don't worry about other people, be whoever you want to" lol!

If I'm so oblivious, then why don't you explain to me what the point is? Instead of making vague, pointless statements.

The point is that he THOUGHT it said "fuck manchester united". It didnt have anything to do with Manchester United or football in general. He misheard it. You knob...

What kind of pointless point is that? His statement implies that he believed the lyric "Fuck manchester united" would of been perfect for the song. I don't even know what you're talking about.

He said he misheard it AND THEN mentioned that if it were in there it would be perfect. I guess he just doesnt like them or thinks that it sounds like a solid statement.

this song's pretty self-explanatory.

i used to think it said, "fuck manchester united, there's something i wanna say." that would've been perfect.
