Indian Rope

In my opinion, and its a bit dark, this song is about rape.

In Tim's autobiography I remember that he mentioned Indian Rope was originally called Some Friendly. Its my interpretation that the phrase 'Some Friendly' is a sarcastic comment, as in "This man killed his kids, Some Father, This man killed his wife, Some Husband, This man raped someone and described himself as 'friendly'(?), some friendly."

(Possibly someone regrets something they've done and the consequences of their actions)

Sometimes I can tell you what does it mean Who am I to question why Who am I?

(Possibly doesn't know why their like this, i.e rapist, murderer etc)

(possibly 'we come together' a rapist and his victim, follow the signs - research me, look for me, read news about me, fear me)

(Have you seen the size of mine - Duhh) (Possibly feelings of inadequacy)

You take the blame And I'll take the pain

(Rapists often feel awful for their actions once the act has happened and try dealing with the blame - its the victims fault not theirs) (Ill take the pain - because deep down I know I to blame and will never be normal)

Who am I to sometimes say There seems a better way

(The writers opinion, who am i to say, there must be a better option for sex than rape)

(The break - harsh sentence, give me a break, saw them saved, because they are in a bad way since the attack?) (You take the fame, news, media. Ill take the blame, charged for crime)

When I was wrong we had no right Who am I to fade away Sometimes I can tell you what does it mean Who am I to question why Who am I?

(We had no right - rape is awful and no one has the right and now the attacker realizes so)

Its 4am as I write this. I'm 17 and really into The Charlatans,If you don't agree, fine, f*** off. I'm also, as most decent human beings are, very much against rape and any form of abuse, this song really spoke to me despite its kind of overlooked presence on an amazing overlooked album. Thank you :)

I think its about being young and cocky and feeling invincible. Could be to do with cocaine, possibly?
