Then Lyrics
I wanna bomb your submarines
You don't do anything for me
You were sometimes hard to find
You were never safe to be with
then
You, you're nothing next to me
I'm a phenomena you see
You were sometimes hard to find
You were never safe to be with
then
Furious again, furious again
You don't do anything for me
We are a phenomena you see
You were sometimes hard to find
You were never safe to be with
then
Furious again, furious again
And you
You give it all to me
You never listen to a thing I said
You're furious, I'm glorious
You never hurt me that much
You don't do anything for me
You were sometimes hard to find
You were never safe to be with
then
I'm a phenomena you see
You were sometimes hard to find
You were never safe to be with
then
We are a phenomena you see
You were sometimes hard to find
You were never safe to be with
then
You give it all to me
You never listen to a thing I said
You're furious, I'm glorious
You never hurt me that much

Arrgghh! Nobody has commented on The Charlatans yet. Am I the only one who cares? Maybe. Maybe I prefer it that way. They are an awesome band who write beautiful songs. This is one of their most haunting.
I love this song, but I've got an odd suspicion about it. It may be a total coincidence, but the line "I wanna bomb your submarines"? There were RN aircraft carriers called "Furious" and "Glorious". I realise it's just a metaphor for being angry at someone but, I dunno. Maybe they'd been reading a magazine article or something. :)
I've always liked the tune, but I've never really thought about the lyrics before. A bit like the lyrics in I am the resurrection, bigging yourself up and putting down a difficult ex.
