Fall Of The Peacemakers Lyrics

A king without a sword
A land without a king
The truth without a voice
One song left to sing
One song to sing

A wise man told me
There's something you should know
The way you judge a man
Is you look into his soul
And you'll soon see everything

A voice from the past cried "Give peace a chance."
He paid our price now he's free at last
And imagine, we called him a dreamer
How many times must good men die?
How many tears must the children cry?
'Till we suffer no more sadness
Stop the madness
Oh, stop the madness

If ashes are ashes and dust is dust
And our journey's end and then return we must
To the sands of the shore
White doves then fly
Peace to all
But tell me why do the peacemakers fall
Must we bury anymore

A hush in the crowd as the horse rode by
A black lace veil hid the tears from her eyes
And we all wept in silence
How many times must good men die?
How many times must the children cry?
'Till we suffer no more sadness
Oh stop the madness
Oh stop all the madness

"A voice from the past cried "Give peace a chance." He paid our price now he's free at last And imagine, we called him a dreamer"

Clearly about John Lennon here, but when I here "free at last," I think of Dr. King. Anyone else?

And don't you just get a chill when you hear "and we all wept in silence..."

@Sunlover Yes indeed, the song is a moving tribute to three great men, Lennon, MLK, Jr, & JFK & I would say, tho the song doesn't clearly reference him, his brother, RFK. Kick-a** but still a great sensitive song. One other point is all these born-again believers who won't miss a chance to inject J. C. & their personal Christian beliefs wherever they can.

...and the "her" behind the "black lace veil" must be Jacki Kennedy at JFKs funeral. (Yes, several horses rode by pulling the casket...)

so JFK, John Lennon, and MLK are the assasinated peacemakers. Hey, what about Mahatma Gandhi?

@sparky13 Definitely Jacki Kennedy. I still remember the black horse with the boots facing backwards. Still brings a tear to the eye of when Walter Cronkite explained the meaning. I was only 8 and I can still see it. Man.....

"A Voice from the past cried "Give peace a chance He paid our price and he's free at last And imagine we called Him a dreamer"

I can understand why someone would refer to Lennnon or JFK or M.L. King by reading these lyrics. But Who has paid the price so that not only is He free, but allows those (who hear His voice) to be free? Jesus Christ of course. The Truth, the Life, and the Way. As long as you have liberals masking absolute truth with relativism you'll never see a time "till we suffer no more sadness" here on Earth. The good news is Christ defeated death. Christ the ultimate peace maker said "My kingdom is not of this world, if it were my servants would fight." and "Peter put away your sword." Paul reiterated "this is a spiritual war, not of flesh and blood."

I don't know either way if the writer of these lyrics had Christ (among other peace makers) in mind. But that is what I take from them.

@Bahnsenite Amen!\r\nJesus willingly gave His life when He could have given in and said He was not God but that would have gone against His nature. He knew before He breathed into Adam\'s lungs that He would have to go to the cross some day and He did it anyway. That\'s love.

I agree.......blessings to you Sheryl

PigPit....the very first verse is about Jesus..

"A king without a sword A land without a king The truth without a voice One song left to sing One song to sing"

He was the very first "peacemaker" and is still the most relevant.

@Wolf359 true!

@Wolf359 true!Amen!

This was in response to someone's thoughts on the origin of this song - below is the reason it was written.

This is not a fictional story or song. Dave wrote this song upon learning of the attempt on the Pope's life (1980 or 1981), and seeing on TV the assassination attempt on President Reagan in 1981. He was deeply effected by the events. It motivated him to reflect on past happenings, and Fall of the Peacemakers was created. ~ Karen Hlubek

@karenhlu I assume you're either his widow, his sister or daughter, no? If so, you'll still need a lot more than just your interpretation, memory or what you've been told, to make me believe this song is about the Pope or President RR, when everything points to Lennon, JFK & Rev. MLK, Jr..

Oh man pitpit!!! If you're ever around during a thunder storm, I am NOT standing close to you.

@garydwilson Wtf does that mean, did he say something sacrilegious?

This is a fictional story song. It's about sheriffs in the old west, such as Wyatt Earp and others. The fact that they were often killed (Earp's brother, who was also a deputy and so forth. This is a southern rock song that was often portrayed like this. Another example is Bad Company's song Bad Company.

I'm glad to see so many think this is beautiful song. It's always been my favorite by them. I saw them in concert in the early 80s.

The verse:

"A Voice from the past cried "Give peace a chance" He paid our price and he's free at last And imagine we called Him a dreamer"

Is so clearly obvious it's about John Lennon and not Jesus fucking christ. I swear, Bahnsenite, you have to be trolling to think that it's about Jesus. Give Peace a chance, Imagine, Dreamer, all obviously John Lennon references.

Peace out Dude!!!

@Pitpit I agree bro, don't let the fear-ridden, guilt-ridden narrow-minded Christian proselytizors get to ya. It's so very obvious about whom this song is written.
