Rush – Tears Lyrics 16 years ago
This song taught me how to lift the needle off the groove while the disk was still rotating and move it 1/2 inch further toward the center...

Peter Gabriel – Games Without Frontiers Lyrics 16 years ago
Hey never.for.ever, when we were kids, we didn't know it was Kate (didn't even know who Kate was yet -- how naive!) and we were positive at the time that she was singing "she's so funky, yeah!" Silly kids...

Peter Gabriel – Games Without Frontiers Lyrics 16 years ago
Lin Tai Yu was a main character in the classic Chinese novel of polical (and family) intrigue: The Red Chamber. This book is sometimes referred to as the Chinese Romeo and Juliet with Lin Tau Yu being Juliet. Lin Tau Yu is a tragic victim of the intrigue and, I guess, can be said to have had her "hill to fly hers on" taken away.

Molly Hatchet – Fall Of The Peacemakers Lyrics 17 years ago
...and the "her" behind the "black lace veil" must be Jacki Kennedy at JFKs funeral. (Yes, several horses rode by pulling the casket...)

so JFK, John Lennon, and MLK are the assasinated peacemakers. Hey, what about Mahatma Gandhi?

Rush – Red Sector A Lyrics 17 years ago
hagar, maybe those guys in the bathroom actually said this bong was built in a prison in Africa...

the song is ostensibly about some bleak situation in the future, but in reality is a description of what it must have felt like to have been liberated by allied forces at the end of WWII... the camp survivors had been imprisoned and starved for so long and none of them had any idea of whether the outside world had any idea of what was going on inside the camps or whether they had been totally forgotten... when the American soldiers came at last to liberate the camps, the prisoners probably could not be sure that what was happening was true... were they liberators or were they German soldiers coming to finish the Jews off? "Do I hope, or do I fear?"

Leonard Cohen – Everybody Knows Lyrics 17 years ago
Everybody wants a box of chocolates
Life is like a box of chocolates
== Everybody wants life

OK nevermind.

I had the opposite experience that Zoltar did. When I saw "Pump Up the Volume" in the theatre, I did not know Leonard Cohen. This song in the movie moved me so much, I bought the Soundtrack the next day. I was very disappointed (at the time) to find that the Soundtrack version was not the same as the movie. I errantly came to the conclusion that the movie version was actually the Concrete Blonde song, but played at 78RPM (you youngsters out there can Google that one.)

I became a huge Concrete Blonde fan from that point forward. I'm such an idiot that I didn't learn the truth about "Everybody Knows" and discover Leonard until a few years later when trying to figure out Cobain's line "give me ... Leonard ... Cohen afterworld ... so I ... can sigh ... eternally" from Pennyroyal Tea. This at the same time I was seriously into the band Sisters of Mercy. Suddenly, everything collapsed and all roads pointed to Cohen...

U2 – Dancing Barefoot Lyrics 17 years ago
I recall this being a b-side in the Rattle and Hum timeframe (89-90.) I also recall enjoying this as a b-side moreso than most of Rattle and Hum itself.

I'm such an idiot, it took me a few years from that to learn about Patti Smith. Now I only listen to the Patti Smith version. One of the best songs of all time...

Hey! This makes 4 postings for Dancing Barefoot on the U2 page while I only saw 2 postings for this song on the Patti Smith page... Maybe I'll wander over and spend some time alone on the Leonard Cohen pages...

Rush – Natural Science Lyrics 17 years ago
Yes! After all of these years of going to Rush shows (since '83) I couldn't believe they finally played Natural Science (NS) live at the Vapor Trails show. They pulled it off perfectly and it is ow one of my greatest concert memories.

NS has always been one of my very favorite songs and on any given time of any given day, NS lines "Wheels within wheels..." or "Wave after wave..." will go through my head. NS conveys very well the impossibility of understanding the vastness of our universe and the miniscule our lives are within it.

Pearl Jam – Bugs Lyrics 17 years ago
Although this song has indeed gotten under my skin, some may argue this song is where the band jumped the shark.
