This song is about hip-hop and how hip hop influenced N.E.R.D's lives and what it was to them when they were growing up and how its kinda straying away. It's kind of like serenading hip hop.
It may be too literal, but I think it's about someone who really cares about someone and not realizing it.
to me this sounds like a girl that he was friends with at first, and then they started to get closer. It was cool for a while, but something got fucked up and so he's lost his girl and his best friend.
