i think this song is obviously metaphorical. the person who wrote the lyrics chose to depict his failed (or failing) relationship by relating it to an addiction to narcotics. i definitely think the point of view of this song is from a person who has been dumped, since he talks bout being "released", and the tone is obviously bitter..."so you faced it with a smile...a trifle's more than this". i'm pretty sure those lines were meant to be sarcastic. i can definitely relate to this song, which makes me like it 9348934 times more. plus, the melody is addicting (no pun intended). :]

It is about a broken relationship and he tries to let her go and don´t mind. He only mentions being on marijuana (Mary-Jane), cocaine is only a way to compare his addiction to her.
I think it's about the intense relief and freedom that follows when a guy breaks up with a girlfriend that "choked" him. It's an extremely optimistic and uplifting song, in my opinion.
