The darkest night of all Lyrics
Goodnight
How can you sleep?
How can you sleep through this?
What are your thoughts as you turn to dream?
I wouldn't know
I never look
These things are hard
These things can hurt
All of the secrets
Nobody needs to know
How does it feel?
Falling asleep so hard
How could ask?
How could I say the things I need to?
You'd go away
Goodnight
Memory must fill you with love
Positive days
Positive years
Older than lonely
Older than old
There's only minutes, minutes to go
You have to feel this
You have to cry
I can go on
I can deny
This stuff, it hurts
Always it will
Now I can ask
Now I can say
The things I need to
You've gone away
Goodnight
How can you sleep?
How can you sleep through this?
What are your thoughts as you turn to dream?
I wouldn't know
I never look
These things are hard
These things can hurt
Nobody needs to know
How does it feel?
Falling asleep so hard
How could ask?
How could I say the things I need to?
You'd go away
Memory must fill you with love
Positive days
Positive years
Older than lonely
Older than old
There's only minutes, minutes to go
You have to feel this
You have to cry
I can go on
I can deny
This stuff, it hurts
Always it will
Now I can ask
Now I can say
The things I need to
You've gone away
Goodnight

This song to me is the night my father passed away. A gift of music that despite the sadness of that night shed's light on the memory of the worst day of my life. This is one of those "soundtrack to your life" moments for me. "Memory must...fill you with love...positive days...positive years..." I see the hallway to the hospital in the middle of the night - there waiting - and I hear the background music behind Lisa's voice. I said goodbye that night, but Lisa's music makes it bearable to hear. "This stuff it hurts...always it will...you've gone away...goodnight(dad)"
i can never rest till a problem is solved.
I love how she says goodnight at the beginning, middle, and end. I don't know, but it just sounds kind of nice. :)
I've always thought of this song as if it's sung while she lies in bed next to her partner, who's sleeping, and she's going thru the process of deciding the relationship is finished as she cant really ever connect with that person because they're never truly emotionally available when she needs it.
