In Power We Entrust the Love Advocated Lyrics

In Power We Entrust the Love Advocated

Sail on silver wings
through this storm
What fortune love may bring
Back to my arms again
The love of a former golden age.
I am disabled by fears concerning which course to take.
For, now that wheels are turning,
I find my faith deserting me...

This night is filled with cries of
Dispossesed children in search of Paradise.
A sign of unresolve that,
Envisioned, drives the pinwheel on-and-on.
I am disabled by fears concerning which course to take.
When memory bears witness to
The innocence, consumed in dying rage!

The way lies through our love;
There can be no other means to the end,
Or keys to my heart...
You will never find.
You will never find!

"I am like thee, O Night, wild and terrible; for my ears are crowded with cries of conquered nations and sighs for forgotten lands."

I was just reading Khalil Gibran's 'The Madman' and this couplet immediately made me think of the similar line in this song.

I've no particular point to make; just thought it was interesting and lovely. (Lovely writing; fearful content.)

Also, my god, that same line (in the song), when listened to today, makes me cry for London. (It's the week of the Tottenham-et-al riots and looting, oh future readers.) Dispossessed children indeed. Gives the line a new dimension of horror.

This is a song about finding love again with my Wife after being separated for 4 years. But with this 'love of a former Golden Age', comes the disabling fear of what to do next with the memory of the relationship's lost innocence consumed by a dying rage. 'We are back together' - where to from here, now that wheels are turning and our dispossessed child is in search of a paradise? Unresolved, I must drive the pin-wheel on and on. The way lies through 'our' love - there can be no other way, or keys to my heart she will never find. ...this is basically a great song to sum up my finally understanding the importance of love after 4 years away from it, because I never ...well, I'm certain now - that the 'course to take' is the one that has us taking it together.

A very poetic, ex-love song? I think it's about an ex coming back, through the storm of an arguement or situation. The singer is wondering what he should do about it - remembering the Golden Age when he was in love with the person before. However, his fears are kicking in now something is happening and he's not too sure.

The cries of Dispossessed Children are all of us longing for Paradise in love as well as himself. The memory bit I think is quite straight forward, he's lost his innocence and whenever he recalls some memory of before he is filled with Rage.

Or maybe it's just someone who's been screwed over too many times and can't let anyone in anymore and if they just gave it a chance then maybe then it will work.

Either way, it works and I can appreciate it.

It's a song on faith. The person is confused on what to believe.

one line should be "a sign of unresolved ambition drives the pinwheel on and on," though I have here the advantage of the reissued EP with a lyric sheet (and Brendan Perry's vocals are heavily buried in the mix, typically).

Perry would never be satisfied with singing about love, when instead he could sing about Love! Or Fate, or Eternity...

he's very good at what he does, but just once I would have liked to have heard him write about something simple and straightforward.

For me, this song represents the transition to adulthood. Longing for treasured memories and a new feeling of uncertainty towards the approaching future. I also relate it to an enlightening diagnosis, looking back on how it affected my childhood and even my life now.

I think it deals with how, as we grow into society, are forced into ambition, greed, ritualistic empty religion and other forms of artificiality which ultimately cause rage and go far away from what love inspires us to do.
