The Wizard Lyrics

Misty morning, clouds in the sky
Without warning, the wizard walks by
Casting his shadow, weaving his spell
Funny clothes, tinkling bell

Never talking
Just keeps walking
spreading his magic

Evil power disappears
Demons worry when the wizard is near
He turns tears into joy
Everyone's happy when the wizard walks by

Never talking
Just keeps walking
spreading his magic

Sun is shining, clouds have gone by
All the people give a happy sigh
He has passed by, giving his sign
Left all the people feeling so fine

Never talking
Just keeps walking
spreading his magic

Black Sabbath's bassist confirmed in this interview that Gandalf is the inspiration here:

Song Meaning

People can think what they want about the lyrics, wether its about a drug dealer or something else. But the true fact is what tkelly said!

Actually, Geezezr just said in bass player last month that this song was written straight out of The Hobbit.

To me this song is about a drug dealer. The morning starts off gloomy as so many people wake up unhappy with life. Low and behold the drug dealer/wizard begins to sell his product (Spreading his magic). The "Demons" that are mentioned in this song represent the "Drug Demons" that addicts face knowing they are hooked on somthing that will lead to their demise. Hence although they attempt to stay away from drugs, in the end they give in to their addiction. Thus "Tears turn into joy" and the "Sun is shinning". The last part of the song represents people after they have consumed their drug of choice and how wonderful it makes them feel.

I don't think it is about a drug dealer but about a real wizard who uses his magic to help people he comes across. I mean, if it was a drug dealer, why would "demons" hide in fear? Anyways, I love this song. I also love the harmonica Ozzy plays.

"Demons worry when the wizard is near " because the problems of life are hidden by whatever the wizard has cooked up today.

Neat take on it phuck... I like that.

It's either about Jesus' return before the rapture....or it could very well be about Gandalf haha...like zosoking said...quite a few Zeppelin songs were based from The Hobbit haha

I think its about a Wizard :D Nothing else

My Opinion

I think xl5ron has the right idea. this song is about a Wizard being a valued member of a community - the people look to him to protect them from evil spirits. Everyone is happy when he walks by because the demons fear/respect him. Unlike Gandalf - a commanding figure who leads an epic fight against evil - I picture the wizard in this song as more of a village priest who is loved by the superstitious medieval people. Some Orthodox Christians still believe that the sound of a bell can disperse evil.
