As I Lay Me Down Lyrics
It felt like spring time on this February morning
In the courtyard birds were singing your praise
I'm still recalling things you said to make me feel alright
I carried them with me today
Now
As I lay me down to sleep
This I pray
That you will hold me dear
Though I'm far away
I'll whisper your name
Into the sky
And I will wake up happy
I wonder why I feel so high
Though I am not above the sorrow
Heavy hearted
Till you call my name
And it sounds like church bells
Or the whistle of a train
On a summer evening
I'll run to meet you
Barefoot barely breathing
As I lay me down to sleep
This I pray
That you will hold me dear
Though I'm far away
I'll whisper your name into the sky
And I will wake up happy
It's not too near for me
Like a flower I need the rain
Though it's not clear to me
Every season has its change
And I will see you
When the sun comes out again
In the courtyard birds were singing your praise
I'm still recalling things you said to make me feel alright
I carried them with me today
Now
This I pray
That you will hold me dear
Though I'm far away
I'll whisper your name
Into the sky
And I will wake up happy
Though I am not above the sorrow
Heavy hearted
Till you call my name
And it sounds like church bells
Or the whistle of a train
On a summer evening
I'll run to meet you
Barefoot barely breathing
This I pray
That you will hold me dear
Though I'm far away
I'll whisper your name into the sky
And I will wake up happy
Like a flower I need the rain
Though it's not clear to me
Every season has its change
And I will see you
When the sun comes out again

I believe she is referring to someone close to her who has passed away. She gets comfort from calling his/her name and this person will hold her. As a Christian I definitely seeing the link to Jesus Christ and it is possible Sophie is refferring to him. She prays for him to hold her even though she is far away. She may not have been close him and is now searching for him. He calls her like church bells or the whistle of a train and provides the comfort she is searching for.
I heard this song on Dawson's Creek...so sweet!
How would anyone in their right mind think she is saying I like tacos? It doesn't even fit with the context of the song. Anyways, I think it's a beautiful song.
its a sad song really but a beautiful one. its about loving someone that even death couldnt stop you doing so.
beautiful song
This song is so beautiful...
This song is amazing to listen to right before going to bed...I can close my eyes and visualize everything she says, "And it sounds like church bells, or the whistle of a train on a summer evening, I'll run to meet you barefoot, barely breathing..."
Beautiful.

My favorite song ever. I still ponder the lyrics though. Is this about a woman who goes to sleep dreaming about someone she loves who she physically cannot be near? Is the person dead or just far away? Does she talk at the end about how she knows one day she will be reunited with her love in heaven?
She is totally high, on a Wednesday evening. She's expressing her lamentation over the fact that she must wait 6 more days before the next Taco Tuesday. Woman really loves her some Tacos.
