That old dog has chained you up alright
Give you everything you need
To live inside a twisted cage
Sleep beside an empty rage
I had a dream I was your hero

Damn I wish I was your lover
I'll rock you till the daylight comes
Make sure you are smiling and warm
I am everything
Tonight I'll be your mother I will
Do such things to ease your pain
Free your mind and you won't feel ashamed

This monkey can't stand to see you black and blue
Give you something sweet each time you
Come inside my jungle book
What is it just too good
Don't say you'll stay
'Cause then you go away

Shucks for me there is no other
You're the only shoe that fits
I can't imagine I'll grow out of it
Damn I wish I was your lover

If I was your girl believe me
I'd turn on the Rolling Stones
We could groove along and feel much better
I could do it forever and ever
Give me an hour to kiss you
Walk through heaven's door I'm sure
We don't need no doctor to feel much better
Let me in
Forever and ever and ever and ever

I sat on the mountainside with peace of mind
I lay by the ocean making love to her with visions clear
Walked for days with no one near
And I return as chained and bound to you

General CommentThis song is actually a true story for Sophie B. She had a good friend who was straight that she fell for and this friend was trapped in an abusive relationship. It's all self explanatory...I think I read in an interview that the girl's name is Sarah but I could be wrong on that. Gay or straight I think we've all been there....stuck in the role of "shoulder to cry on" while the object of your affection goes on and on about how unhappy they are in their current situation. And you're sitting there thinking "Dump them and go out with ME, already!"
The line about "I am everything. Tonight I'll be your mother" is an example of how she could take care of this woman the way a mother would care for a child. Tuck her in at night, undo all the pain athat this man caused her friend and she would be her guardian. But it's clear the mother thing is only figurative...she'd make sure they had a passionate relationship if only the straight girl would give her a chance "I'll do such things to ease your pain, free your mind and you won't feel ashamed".
One of my favorite lines of the song is part of the ad lib hear her say "I'm feeling like a school boy, too shy and too young." That's such a great line...she has nothing but admiration for this woman but she's so unattainable Sophie feels like it's some "school boy" case of unrequited love.

General CommentSophie B.Hawkins is bi-sexual and this is about her falling for a straight woman :)

"Free your mind and you won't feel ashamed"
Basically translates as be a little more open minded im only a girl.

"This monkey can't stand to see you black and blue"
Maybe the woman she desires is getting domestic violence

General Commentlove it love it love it.
also the line "maker love to HER"
    points to that meaning,
but i just think its a fun cheesy song to sing to your boyfriend, or whoever.

General CommentSome of the lyrics, "Tonight I'll be your mother", etc, are a bit weird, but the song is otherwise outstanding.
