This Flight Tonight Lyrics
Look out the left the captain said
The lights down there that's where we'll land
Saw a falling star burning
High above the Las Vegas sand
It wasn't the one that you gave to me
That night down south between the trailers
Not the early one that you wish upon
Not the northern one that guides in the sailors
You've got that touch so gentle and sweet
But you've got that look so critical
Can't talk to you babe you know I get so weak
Sometimes I think that love is just mythical
Up there's a heaven, down there's a town
Blackness everywhere any little lights shine
Blackness, blackness draggin' me down
Come on light a candle in this heart of mine
Starbright, starbright, you've got the lovin' that I like
Turn this crazy bird around
Should not have got on this flight tonight
I'm drinkin' sweet champagne got the headphones up high
Can't numb you, can't drum you out of my mind
They're singin'-"Goodbye baby,
Baby bye-bye,
Ooh! love is blind"
Up go the flaps, down go the wheels
Hope you got your heat turned on baby
Hope they've finally fixed your automobile
Hope it's better when we meet again babe.
The lights down there that's where we'll land
Saw a falling star burning
High above the Las Vegas sand
That night down south between the trailers
Not the early one that you wish upon
Not the northern one that guides in the sailors
But you've got that look so critical
Can't talk to you babe you know I get so weak
Sometimes I think that love is just mythical

My mom used to play music for me when I was a baby while she was doing housework, I totally dug dancing along to her tunes. This was one she played alot, now it always makes me smile and think of my mom.
This song and Nazareth alltogether are too underrated.
Yeahhhhh...
It's one of those song with inconsequential lyrics, but the tune / sound... I was in my early teens when this came out, and it got a lot of airtime on UK radio. That thundering rhythm and howling bottleneck! Almost as soothing as my mum's spin-drier. I heard it in the car on the way home tonight, it brought back a lot of happy memories.
No Joni Mitchell song has inconsequential lyrics: she's Joni Mitchell.

This song is also a cover made big by Naz, along with My White Bicycle. It was originally written by Joni Mitchell. Personally I think they knocked it out of the park. MUCH better version.
I don't think the lyrics are inconsequential though. Probably about a long relationship that has it's problems but still has it's draw. Don't wanna stay, don't wanna leave. Just MHO.
@SeNTry Hi I never have heard of My White Bicycle. Interesting name for a band even though you never see a white one!

Manny is a great rock guitarist, no doubt about that. I'm not even sure about how much merit the Rolling Stone List should have; there are some pretty strange inclusions in it. However, Joni is not one of them. I began by saying that Manny is a very great rock guitarist but there are more styles of guitar than rock. Joni is admired within the industry for her experimentation with tunings and harmonies. She produces sounds which add unusual colour and to her lyrics. She messes about with the tunings to get just the sound she wants. Now go tune your guitar. EADGBE do some runs, make some chord shapes. You spent hours practicing those right? In each different tuning the chord and scale shapes are going to be different. It's not a matter of that's a D chord that's a G chord but where's a G Chord where's a D chord. She's a great guitarist with a superb sense of rhythm and timing in her playing. Pretty good pianist too.

Incidently, Jimmy Page, in an interview which can be found on the net somewhere (can't remember where) was talking about the struggle to be creatively consistent and said something like, "only one person gets it right every time, Joni Mitchell"...she was 70 last year and been writing great songs and performing them for somewhere like 50+ years...Led Zeppelin mention her in a song, Graham Nash wrote 'Our House' for her, Neil Young wrote 'Sweet Joni' for her. I guess she deserves a place on the rolling stone list!
