Jean Is Dead Lyrics

Wake up early, mad at you
Go to school
But where are you?

Shoulda told me
Shoulda known
Now you're gone
I'm alone

Your mother told me last night on the phone
Why'd you do it? Now I'm alone
Woulda helped you, woulda done anything
Taken you with me or bought you a ring

Now you're gone and I'm alone
Now you're gone and I'm alone

Shoulda told me
Shoulda known
Now you're gone
I'm alone

Your mother told me last night on the phone
Why'd you do it? Now I'm alone
Woulda helped you, woulda done anything
Taken you with me or bought you a ring

Now you're gone and I'm alone
Now you're gone and I'm alone
Now you're gone and I'm alone
Now you're gone and I'm alone

Shoulda told me
Shoulda known
Now you're gone
I'm alone

I'm sure this song is a reference to the other song before it on the album, "Bikeage." In fact, Milo Goes To College is pretty much a semi-conceptual album, and I'm sure the last four songs are about the same girl.

Rather than this song be about the usual breakup story, I'm sure that Jean was the girl in "Bikeage" and her lifestyle got her in the end. It's pretty sad to look into.

my take on it (that my friends disagree with) is that it's about this guy's girlfriend, Jean, who commits suicide. And he's talking about how he would've helped her, and asking her why she did it. Maybe it's not that bad though, thats just what i got from it.

I think that it's the last 2, not 4, but yeah, i agree with you on the other stuff.

As far as I'm concerned, this is the punk equivalent of Sweet Child O Mine. That intro riff is unbelievable. Shame it doesn't go on for longer.

I heard that Bikeage was about a girl called Michelle, although they might have just changed the name for this song.

i don't see how they could disagree with you... the songs called "jean is dead," so there's that much. he also says "why'd you do it?" a couple of times, even though it's not in the lyrics here. so she's dead, she did it, plain and simple.

Yeah, same here, I've always thought it was about a guy who's girlfriend committed suicide. It's pretty clear.
