Captain Sunshine Lyrics

Captain Sunshine, make me drink wine,
Make me feel fine when I'm feelin' wrongly down.
He don't take much, he don't make much,
But ah, to be such a man as he,
and walk so pure between the earth and the sea.

Captain Sunshine, he do me fine,
Make the words rhyme when he knows the tune is sad.
He don't take much, he don't make much,
But ah, to be such a man as he,
and walk so pure between the earth and the sea.

He don't take much, he don't make much,
But ah, to be such a man as he,
and walk so pure between the earth and the sea.

Cover art for Captain Sunshine lyrics by Neil Diamond

Well, I don't know this for certain, but my theory is that this song is about Jesus.

Jesus, being Captain Sunshine, makes him drink wine. I don't think that this wine-drinking is in order to get drunk, or get a buzz on. I believe that the wine is Holy Communion.

"Walk so pure between the earth and the sea" Jesus was the only one who lived pure, without sin, in His lifetime on earth.

I don't exactly know Neil Diamond's beliefs, so I could be totally off, but that's what this song means to me.

Wow! that was such a very good interpretation imo.But I think it really is true.

Thanks a lot!

@captainhastings I've just found this album on vinyl in a charity shop. This has to be one of the most beautiful songs ever and, having read your interpretation of it, it is even more beautiful. It brings a tear to my eye. I think you are spot on.
