Nothing can bring me closer
Nothing can bring me near
Where is the road I followed?
To leave it, leave
It's under, under, under my feet
The sea spread out there before me
Where do I go when the land touches sea?
There is my trust in what I believe
That's what keeps me
That's what keeps me
That's what keeps me down
Believe it
Leave it
Leave it all behind
Shifting the dream
Nothing can bring me
Further from my old friend Time
Shifting the dream
Charging the scene
I know where I marked the signs
Suffer dreams of a world gone mad
I like it like that and I know it
I know it well
Ugly and sweet
I temper madness with an even extreme
That's what keeps me
That's what keeps me
That's what keeps me down
I say that I'm a bantam light weight
I say that I'm a phantom airplane
That never left the ground
That's what keeps me
That's what keeps me
That's what keeps me down
Leave, leave it
Leave it all behind
Lift me, lift me,
I dream, I dream.
I lost myself, I lost the
Heartache calling me
I lost myself in sorrow
I lost myself in pain
I lost myself in clarity
Memory, leave, leave
That's what keeps me
That's what keeps me
That's what keeps me down
To leave it, believe it
Leave it all behind
That's what keeps me
That's what keeps me
That's what keeps me down
To leave it, believe it
Leave it all behind
Lift my hands
My eyes are still
I walk into the sea
Shoot myself in a different place
Then leave it
I've longed for this to take me
I've longed for my release
I've waited for the calling
To leave, leave
Leave, leave
Leaving, leavine
eave
Nothing can bring me near
Where is the road I followed?
To leave it, leave
The sea spread out there before me
Where do I go when the land touches sea?
There is my trust in what I believe
That's what keeps me
That's what keeps me down
Believe it
Leave it
Leave it all behind
Nothing can bring me
Further from my old friend Time

That's what keeps me down
Leave, leave it
Leave it all behind

To leave, leave
Leaving, leavine

"The idea is to remain in a state of constant departure while always arriving." -- Waking Life
i love this, it makes me want to cry
Yeah Malegna - whenever I hear this song all I see is Robert and Celene from A Life Less Ordinary running through the forest. FAB SONG!!
Transcience.
At the song's heart, we find a protagonist that is desperate to go, losing themselves in anger, "sorrow" and "pain". Shortly after, REM would cease being a quartet and become a trio when drummer Bill Berry left the band in1997 saying "ready to sit back and reflect & maybe not be a pop star anymore".
I'm not a fan of these guys, really, but this is probably in my top 10 songs of all time. yeah, i'm one of those assholes who does the top 10 lists. i hate it too. anyway, it's a great song and i strongly suggest it notice how much i misspelled the last couple of words? shit.
i love this song too, the 'a life less ordinary'-version doesn't matter with the misspelling ;) think it's clear what the right words are...
well, i must say i'm not very into rem, but this song really surprised me, i used to think they were a boring country group. now, i will download and listen to their music. the album this song is in is also very good
I have always been a large R.E.M. fan but would only listen to their old albums. I was a snotty close-minded fan, that thought R.E.M. was finished after Green. I woke from a nap to this song and instantly realized the quality of it. New Adventures has become perhaps my favorite R.E.M. album and I now appriciate all R.E.M. has done. Their music has matured with the band.
Song is about death, the death of an era of life after the troubles REM went through inbetween Automatci and New Adventures. History is painful and hard to leave behind.....
