Red Water (Christmas Mourning) Lyrics
Wake up, it's Christmas mourn
Those loved have long since gone
The stocking are hung but who cares
preserved for those no longer there
six feet beneath me sleep
Black lights hang from the tree
accents of dead holly
Whoa mistletoe
(It's growing cold)
I'm seeing ghost
(I'm drinking old)
Red water
Red water
Red water chase them away
My tables been set for but seven
just last year i dined with eleven
goddamn ye merry gentlemen
Whoa mistletoe
(It's growing cold)
I'm seeing ghosts
(I'm drinking old)
Red water
Red water
Red water chase them away.
Those loved have long since gone
The stocking are hung but who cares
preserved for those no longer there
six feet beneath me sleep
accents of dead holly
(It's growing cold)
I'm seeing ghost
(I'm drinking old)
Red water
Red water
Red water chase them away
just last year i dined with eleven
goddamn ye merry gentlemen
(It's growing cold)
I'm seeing ghosts
(I'm drinking old)
Red water
Red water
Red water chase them away.

My husband and I walked down the aisle to this song..the intro sounds kind of like an alternative wedding march doesn't it? Type O Negative are one of the best live bands. I went to see them when I was pregnant with my first son, he kicked a lot so he must've enjoyed the show!!!
The song depicts a person who has lost four family members "The table's been set for but seven, just last year I dined with eleven", and is drowning his sorrows with a bottle of red wine (red water); thus attempting to "chase away" the memories of those he has lost. I used to listen to this on repeat on the night of Christmas Eve while staring at the tree, reminiscing over Christmases past, and always finding that the ones in the past were better than the present as the years went by. It reminds me of how innocence fades with time. This is why I never have a Christmas tree in my house.
This song has a whole new meaning now that we have lost Pete...
Christmas is almost here and I can't listen to this song without my eyes welling up. By far the most depressing Christmas song ever. Depressing yet absolutely beautiful.
2023/24 and still listening, Pete. You genius, you. "Six feet beneath me sleep"
Wow..I'm surprised no one has commented on this song. THis is one of my top fav Type O songs. I think it's about someone that has lost a wife, husband, girlfriend, or boyfriend, and they are experiencing the first Christmas without them. It's really sad. I can only imagine what CHristmas without a loved one would be like.
It's about the death of Peter's father.
This is one of my favorite songs on October Rust, and definitely the darkest song on that CD. Apparently they never play it live and never will, from what I've read.
This song is about Peter's father like jc6md said, but to elaborate: It's about remembering all those lost and to "chase them away" with a trusty bottle of vino. Really depressing, yet nevertheless a powerful song.
I love this song, it's so underrated. It's sad but beautiful.
Wow.... that's almost all I can say. These TypeONeg songs are just stunning. They sound so very black. It's amazing.
