Precious Lyrics

I like the way you cross the street 'cause your precious
Moving through the Cleveland heat how precious
Taking rides and all the kicks was so precious
But you know I was shittin' bricks 'cause I'm precious

Made me want to, made me want to, you made me make it
Oh, you're so mean

East 55th and Euclid avenue was real precious
Hotel sterling coming into view how precious
It's a pity that you bruised my hip 'cause I'm precious
You shouldn't let your manners slip you're too precious

Made me want to, made me want to, you made me make it
Oh, you're so mean

We went around and round and round and round and round the Shoreway
We was gonna do it do it do it on the pavement
Oh maybe maybe I'm gonna have a baby
We was a duet oh we do it all night

I was feeling kind of ethereal 'cause I'm precious
I had my eye on your imperial you're so precious
Now Howard the duck and Mr Stress both stayed
"Trapped in a world that they never made"
But not me baby I'm too precious
Fuck off

Made me want to, made me want to, you made me make it
Oh, you're so mean

Skipped a few lyrics. Chrissie Hynde says "But not me baby, I'm too precious; (I had ta) fuck off." It isn't just a blank and then "fuck off". The "I had to" is compressed together just a bit. But it's there, quite audibly.

@Mytwobitz Yep, exactly. I associate the phrase "I had to fuck off [out of there]" with the UK rather than the US. Could be why American listeners just hear "fuck off".

"Now Howard The Duck and Mr. Stress both stayed, trapped in a world that they never made." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Howard_The_Duck_-8.jpg

Howard the Duck and Mr. Stress were bands in Cleveland back in the early 70s. She's not referring to the comic, or that lame movie based on it. Those bands "stayed" in Cleveland, while she "fucked off" to Engand, because she was too "precious" (which in thi context means, "too good")

crazymanmichael - What's your basis for asserting that there was a band from Cleveland in the early 70's called "Howard the Duck"? Although the lyric undoubtedly refers to Bill Miller, a longtime Cleveland bluesman who performed as "Mr. Stress", it sure seems to me that it must also directly reference the Steve Gerber comic book and his title character's inability to return to his home on Duckworld after being transported to Cleveland. After all, "Trapped in a World He Never Made" is the comic book's tag line.

@S4v3St4t3s crazymanmichael: thank you for your insight into 'Howard the Duck' which is very interesting. I have long been perplexed by the meaning of those lyrics.

I cant believe the term "shitting bricks" is so old

@harrykid What you may not believe is how shocking the lyrics were esp her use of the word shit. It was quite something for a woman to swear while singing in those days and Patti Smith really shocked with her stuff.
