I just couldn't figure out what this song was about so eventually I decided to email Jason Slater. Several months after emailing him I got back an email
Hi Harrison,sorry it took me so long to get back to you.
Act Your Age is about a girl and her sister I became friends with in 4th grade. We all remained friends until high school when one of the sisters died in a car accident. So I wrote the song about that.
Bong hits,like all of the Brougham songs is about Palo Alto,the city we grew up in. It's basically a lament about all the .com companies coming in and ruining our city while everyone just stood by and did nothing about it and then bitched and moaned when they got priced out of living in their own city. It's a really loose concept in that song,but it's there. Oh yeah, it's also about smoking weed,but so is every other Brougham song. Every song on that record are about the same 2 things,just in different situations. The life of two disenfranchised stoners is basically what the records about. I hope that fills in the gaps for you.
