You've Got A Friend Lyrics
when you're down and troubled
and you need some loving care
and nothing, nothing is going right
close your eyes and think of me
and soon i will be there
to brighten up even your darkest night
chorus
you just call out my name
and you know, wherever i am
i'll come running to see you agan
winter, spring, summer, or fall
all you have to do is call
and i'll be there
you've got a friend
if the sky above you
grows dark and full of clouds
and that old north wind begins to blow
keep your head together
and call my name out loud
soon you'll hear me knocking at your door
chorus
now ain't it good to know that you've got a friend
when people can be so cold
they'll hurt you, yes, and desert you
and take your soul, if you let them
oh, but don't you let them
chorus
and you need some loving care
and nothing, nothing is going right
close your eyes and think of me
and soon i will be there
to brighten up even your darkest night
you just call out my name
and you know, wherever i am
i'll come running to see you agan
winter, spring, summer, or fall
all you have to do is call
and i'll be there
you've got a friend
grows dark and full of clouds
and that old north wind begins to blow
keep your head together
and call my name out loud
soon you'll hear me knocking at your door
when people can be so cold
they'll hurt you, yes, and desert you
and take your soul, if you let them
oh, but don't you let them

This redefines a "Friend" to mean beyond somthing beyond what most people only imagine. Somebody once said, "it's easy to find friends to stand beside you when you're right, but a true friend stands beside you, even when you're wrong." Well, by this post she knows, she matters. You friend, matter to me. Don't blow it!
like most carole king songs this makes me feel so happy and sad at the same time, i remember the first time i heard this song being like in sixth grade and crying alone in my room thinking about all the friends i have had and lost at that time. Ahh this makes me sound so lame, well that was my childhood for you guys.
@im15 Did you move a time or two during those years and lose friends in the process?

Well said soxkokwa,
Sorry Olliebabe but they just about killed it.
A brilliant and moving song.
I believe that the" friend" in this song is actually Jesus/Sananda
This song is about someone obviously suffering from Messiah Syndrome. The singer imagines she can save someone's life, or soul, simply by offering to be her 'friend'. As if someone's deep pain, anguish and despair will magically disappear like snow in sunshine, just because the singer knocks on your door saying 'Hello, I'm your friend, now everything's fine'.
lolz, this is me and my mum's song... the first album i ever owned... haha, and i'm only young
She wrote this with James Taylor, who she was married to at the time. He has his own version, sung to her, on acoustic guitar. So romantic.
She was never married to James Taylor.
