this is about being held away from your dreams... or also being held back from showing your true beauty. it is about being judged or looked down upon for being different and longing for a way out. Madraykin. :)

this song reminds me of me. god how vain. no really though, cause i give myself away at night, and when i get involved with people our relationship gets darker and more disturbed- 'the kiss of Madraykin will keep you from sleep' also people judge me from the outside and how i am. and on a lighter note i do have a birthmark on neck, some say it looks like a twisted heart

I think this song is about Relationships and Abuse and the way that women nearly always return to a their man even though he abuses her. Also I think that it's kind of 'you reap what you sew' kind of thing. If you abuse someone you are sick and it should keep you awake at nights.

I think that this song is maybe a feminist song although perhaps it is simply a cry for freedom. "How deep does she weep in your well of unkeep..." I think Katie Jane is saying that people mistreat others, both verbally and physically, and that sometimes they don't understand the full extent of what they are doing when they say things. I think she is simply saying that there is a way out and that we all suffer like Madraykin, we shouldn't feel alone because at some point, everyone hurts.

that reminds me of myself. beeing paranoid every second that she could not come back one day. how sad.

I believe its about pretty much what everyone said.. women being abused in relationships. If anyone has seen the 'I adore you' clip it has Katie Jane dancing happily in a dress with like a pole with a ribbon on it but on the 'Medraykin' video on the taxidermy cd it has her skipping/dancing and then a man looking liek he is strangling her.

it reminds me of s fairytale i heard years ago about a man who fell in love with a selkie and took her as his wife. she stayed with him during the day but took her sealskin and returned to her sisters every night. in the end he got angry and threw her sealskin on the fire. she lived as his prisoner for a bit but eventually ran away and he never saw her again. i guess it's about how holding on too tightly to someone eventually drives them away from you.

"Let not your hold be so tight, She'll return in the morning, If you give her the night." This gives me the sense of being suffocated (as in an overprotective/overjealous relationship) and restricted. Wanting freedom, not to escape, but to have breathing room.

"Madraykin is she suffering? Is she suffering? Madraykin is she suffering?" This seems to simply ask (the question is directed to the abuser, Madraykin) if he's causing her (the victim, "she") pain. Quite simply: "Are you hurting her, Madraykin?"

"Revealing her birthmark you cast out her eye, Clipped are the wings of the angels sighs, Revealing her birthmark you put out her tongue, Clipped are the wings of the fairies who run." A little more complicated here... The word "revealing" makes me thing that "she" was hiding something and leads me to think this: Abuser (Madraykin) limits "her" freedom and when she tries to exercise that freedom, he punishes her.
The "clipped are the wings" lines say to me that those who don't use their freedom lose it (fairies can fly, but those who choose to only run lose the use of their wings).

"How deep does she weep in your well of unkeep? " Once again addressing Madraykin, asking how much pain he's caused "her" and how deep she's tangled in his games.

"The kiss of Madraykin will keep you from sleep." Now speaking to "her" (the victim), telling her that Madraykin is not good for her. "Keep you from sleep," could be literally (physical abuse) or indiretly (kept awake from guilt).

Well that took a bit longer than I expected, but I think about this song a lot. To sum it up, I see (like most of you have said) an abusive relationship, perhaps not physical, but through restricted freedoms and guilt trips.

I really like the bass in the beginning. Probably my favorite song on Taxidermy.
