Hah, I don't think this is supposed to be a trippy drug-inspired song. Volcano came out right after his daughter was born so it's really exactly what it says, a song for children. A whimsical tale in classic Jimmy style.
This song was written during his tine at St. Barts. He had good friends from Bermuda whose boat was named Venus, and their son was named Magnus. Yes, it was about the little children; but, taken from these good friends, who had 3 children - 2 girls and a son, Magnus. We were in St. Barts aboard a boat at the time.
This was the first song he wrote when he came to St. Barts in 1979. One morning, two little kids came up to his boat with croissants and a big mug of coffee. He wrote this song for those kids. One has grown up to be a reggae star. They were the Thrift kids from Nevus. Two of them became singers and one became a news personality in Bermuda. Jimmy says their parents have him to blame for the entire dysfunction in that family.
