I'm surprised no ones commented on this song yet. At the Drive-In, amazing. I think this song sounds a little different than many other their others but none-the-less I love it.

I think this is one of At the drive-in's best songs. it's very underrated, probably cause not too many people have heard it.

i think it's about how people take things for granted, and they don't appreciate things until they are gone, and they don't know what to do when that day comes.

Many people may see it differently, but to me, this song has a lot to do with divorce. Symbols that refer to this are the "Ring that turned my finger green" and the mention of seeing the other person in twenty years. As for the braces part, many marriages begin as courtships through high school. But who really cares? Everyone has their own opinion and At The Drive-In kickass!

I love this song, it is one of my favorites from At the Drive-In. I think that this song is about a friendship gone bad. "And all because your stubborness was smiling through your braces" - I think the braces represent the person shallow/sarcastic/arrogant way, hence the stubborness.

"and i will always wear your ring you know the one that turned my finger green " - I think this is more symbolic than an actual ring, it represents a scar in his life, something done by the other person that will be with him for life.

"meal tickets have been refused" - this is also more symbolic than actually meaning meal tickets have been refused. It stands for the basic necessities needed in a relationship, caring, compassion, trust, respect. the foundation. which is why this "you gave me a reason to sing our last song"

I see this dealing with any relationship/friendship that could be formed, be it through marriage like JustNotherEmoKid suggested. When one person tries to build the walls of a relationship (foundation) while the other just seems to shatter it. Well that is my small briefing on one of At the Drive-In's best songs ever! I could be way off but who knows. Thanks for taking the time to listen to my thoughts.

very underrated song, in fact it may be my favorite by them. I definitely agree with Frappi and what he said about those two quoted lyrics. 'meal tickets' seem to refer to worn-out excuses, kind of like 'free passes' from the spouse in this case to get out of arguments, etc. it's really a well-written song, lyrically and definitely musically.

I love this song so much, its not just an underrated song, but the whole album isnt given the credit its due! I personally think that its about breaking up, which I think has been ascertained. I think the lyric "and i will always wear your ring you know the one that turned my finger green" is about jelousy, how he got jelous or possessive after tokens of affection were exchanged or they got engaged. Thats all for now

This song is amazing. It's definetely about an ended relationship. It's sung so coherently at times and full of rage at others.

is an amazing use of words. Just imagine throwing enough bricks to build a wall between you and your partner.

it's definitely about like young or immature love. like, the ring that turned his finger green was probably bought from one of those 25 cent machines you see at the exit in supermarkets and stuff.
