Not too sure about this one, great song though, if you haven't heard it you <b>must</b> get it.

Me thinks this song refers to how our rampant world economy is slowly killing our natural resources. "parkas worn in summer apparel"- this quote could be a reference to the lack of ozone protection in New Zealand which is where the depletion of the ozone layer is most prevalent. "the running of the bulls will trample all the life support systems" "matadors chase the bulls in a china shop" An old 80's commercial from one of the bigger investment companies had a bull running through a shop filled with fragile items. I'm trying to remember what the narrator said but the song is a reference to how our elected officials (the matadors) encourage the bull (our economy, idealy a bull market) to run rampant without a care for our environment (the china shop). Just an opinion

on the part where it says "students spray the kent state mist" this is referring to a protest that was held at Kent State college. a few students were killed and their blood "sprayed".ehh just a thought

One of the reasons for Vietnam I have heard is that it was a huge money maker for the ecomony and government, so maybe both of the opinions above are right.

this song is what defines the cd and contributes to the reason this is the best record by atd-i,lyric-wise, its engagingly vague, loaded with numerous references that dont make sense unless you can make sense of them,they tend to represent more than their definition... the music is ever winding with clever use of distortion and tight drum beats

I'd go with the Vietnam connection on this one, matadors chase a bull in the china shop.

Matador = US China Shop = The mess that was Vietnam Bull in a China Shop = already a mess Matador chasing said bull? = Makes it much worse.

Listen-up, it's a universal truth that war is the most costly endeavor you can take, in terms of both life and wealth. And besides, I don't think South Vietnam was a particularly wealthy part of Asia either (I don't know for sure, though, so correct me if I'm wrong). To me, it's a lot more likely that the US was trying to help out a friendly nation and strike a blow against communism. Believe it or not, on the military side of things the US would've done far better if politicians who didn't know how to fight wars hadn't tried to micromanage everything. If troops were allowed to invade North Vietnam or send patrols into Laos (where many Vietcong fled to escape the Army, I heard), then the outcome of the war may have been very different. Anyway, as far as the song goes, I have no clue what it's about, but the Vietnam analogy seems a little weak compared to the messages of songs like One-Armed Scissor or Arc Arsenal (which were total genius).
