Precious Declaration Lyrics

Hitched a ride to the peaceful side of town
Then proceeded where thieves were no longer found
Can't crash now I've been waiting for this
Won't crash now I found some encouragement
Precious declaration reads
Yours is yours and mine you leave alone now
Precious declaration says
I believe all hope is dead no longer

New meanings to the words I feed upon
Wake within my veins elements of freedom
Can't break now I've been living for this
Won't break now I'm cleansed with hopefulness
Precious declaration says
Yours is yours and mine you leave alone now
Precious declaration says
I believe all hope is dead no longer

Once I jumped thru hoops of fire
High and far as you required
I was blind but now I see
Salvation has discovered me

sorry guys, but I am pretty sure that this song is about the biz and how collective soul went through some tough times with the record company. . jumping through hoops of fire. . "Yours is yours and mine you leave alone now" refers to compensation issues etc . . .its funny how collective soul and pumpkins have bickered or had a fued and they both hate the industry that they're in . .oh well, still love the music. .

You are absolutely right. Ed Roland declared that in an interview. It's about how a former manager screwed them.

only alley really makes a lot of sense. A lot of people always seem to confuse Collective soul's music as having a christian theme just because he uses a lot of words like "salvation", and "hope" and "soul", but he seems to use those words mainly because those words just sound very poetic.

@flyingdaitchman Well there are plenty of reasons why someone would come to that conclusion. Especially anyone who is a big enough fan of the band to know their history and analyzed all of their discography. I definitely wouldn't be so sure that I would say anyone who believes this had it "confused." Knowing Ed and Dean's upbringing, and how their father was a minister, it should be no surprise that the writer (Ed) would often write of spiritual journeys. It's my personal opinion that Ed is a lyrical genius for making it even possible to debate on this. Ed uses...

Isn't this the sexiest opening riff ever though...It's kind of similar to "Naked" by Reef. I think that it is about started your life over again. Being born again by Jesus and believing that everything you do is for a reason.

All right, I have a take on this that I haven't seen yet.

This is a song about a divorce, and it's a divorce that the singer is exceedingly happy to be done with, ready to start a new life and move on in whatever direction he wants. Feels so good, it's like salvation.

"Hitched a ride to the peaceful side of town Then proceeded where thieves are no longer found"

Going to a divorce arbitration. No lawyers allowed, only a judge.

"Can't crash now I've been waiting for this Won't crash now I found some encouragement "

Getting near the end of the proceedings. Maybe this is the last meeting before making everything official. So close.

"Precious declaration reads Yours is yours and mine you leave alone now"

The "precious declaration" is his divorce decree. It let them both leave with their own assets, which is how the singer wanted it to go.

"Precious declaration says I believe all hope is dead no longer "

Our first clue that this divorce is a happy one. He's felt like all hope is dead, until this day, when the decree was signed.

"New meanings to the words I feed upon Wake within my veins elements of freedom Can't break now I've been living for this Won't break now I'm cleansed with hopefulness"

He's able to see things for himself now, not filtered through someone else's eyes, and he feels better for it. It's a sign he's embracing his freedom, all the muck from his past gone and replaced with hope.

"Once I jumped thru hoops of fire High and far as you required I was blind but now I see Salvation has discovered me"

He tried very hard to make her happy, jumping through hoops of fire for her if she asked. He didn't realize how trapped he really was, but now he's free, and feels great!

this song reminds me of what its like to have someone who makes life worthwhile. when i was first getting of the streets it didn't seem worth all the hassle of holding down a job just to make a better life for myself, it was worth it to make a better life for me and my friend who was living with me.

To me, this song is about learning to live, and learning to let things come and go... if that makes any sense.

It kind of reminds me of divorce. Like when he says "Yours is yours and mine you leave alone now", like his awful ex wife doesn't get it anymore...and then the last verse, "Once i jumped through hoops of fire...." as if he did everything she said, but now he's free. But I know a lot of people don't agree with this one.

What does this song mean to me? To me Precious Declaration is declaring salvation. The song is about being saved by Christ. The line "I believe all hope is dead no longer" speaks that he's found a renewal of hope and is filled w/ this newfound hope. In the last part of the lyrics he says "I was blind but now I see Salvation has discovered me." His eyes were opened to truth. God draws people to Him, hence "Salvation has discovered me." God called him and now he's been saved. Thats what it means to me.

this is a decent enouh song, sounds to me like it means someones happy to get away from someone else

Not really, they use a lot that due to the Roland Bros background. Their father is a pastor. So they were listening a lot these religion words in their formative years.
