No Name #3 Lyrics
We arrived too late
Our mouths were opening
I turned off the light
So come on night
You're a witness, you
You've seen me interrupt
A good old-fashioned fight
So come on night
Everyone is gone
Home to oblivion
Home to oblivion
Home to oblivion
Watched the dying day
Blushing in the sky
Everyone is uptight
So come on night
Everyone is gone
Home to oblivion
Home to oblivion
Home to oblivion
Home to oblivion
I know we're not
Illegitimate
In our hearing
So come on
So come on night
Our mouths were opening
I turned off the light
So come on night
You've seen me interrupt
A good old-fashioned fight
So come on night
Home to oblivion
Home to oblivion
Home to oblivion
Blushing in the sky
Everyone is uptight
So come on night
Home to oblivion
Home to oblivion
Home to oblivion
Home to oblivion
I know we're not
Illegitimate
In our hearing
So come on
So come on night

i read somewhere else that his parents would often fight, which would explain the part about interrupting the old fashioned fight (which im hearing upstars at this very moment). but instead of interrupting, ill just turn up this song and head home to oblivion. personally, i like that all piano tribute cd by the same title (home to oblivion). has anyone else heard it?
@n8eightyseven hello, whos tribute?

no one has any interpretation of this song? well i guess the lyrics are simpler than most of his... or maybe just open to too many interpretations cause its not very specific. When reading the lyrics i get the image of a couple, together, late at night. I also love these lines: -watched the dying day -blushing in the sky Always knew exactly how to describe something in the most beautiful way. When i first heard the song all I could think of was 'everyone is gone, home to oblivion' and how perfect and true those lines are.
Simply put (because the lyrics are descriptive and evoke simplicity) I think this tune is his "Moonlight Serenade." Just a man & a woman finding solace in eachothers company while sharing the coming twilight framed from a tenemant window. I think it's just an archetypical song...Elliott knew (on whichever level) how to emulate these types of songs. He was fucking good.
Another brilliant song without a comment. This is currently my favorite Elliott song- It's in my head almost 24 hours a day.
I wish I knew the correct guitar tabs for playing this song
I love the ending to this song...
so come on night.
One of the most breathtaking melodic guitar solos in this song too. Lush.
Could be my favourite ES song. It's about peace, or finding peace in self whilst everyone around acts stupid and uptight. So blissful to hear.
His best song ever. I get the feeling that this song is about to forget everything you dont want to remember, Its just a feeling that i have. By just reading the words, its about this couple.. but there's something else beneath the words...
what a great song..words cant describe it too me...its fits in great in "Good Will Hunting"...when there driving home from the bar early in the morning..each of them at one with their thought..quietly thinking..I can remember laying in bed with my ex girlfriend just listening to this whole album and relaxing.. just forgetting about the day that had just past, the week, them month, the year.. just everything...and falling asleep peacefully next to each other..."watch the dying day, blushing in the sky..everyone is uptight..so, come on night"...simply beautiful
